Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Exploitation Engineer. This position is based in the Calgary office and reports to the Team Lead, Oungre. The Senior. Exploitation Engineer will be responsible for all activities related to growing and maximizing the value of Vermilion’s Saskatchewan assets. In addition, the role will provide hands-on assistance on a number of multi-disciplinary teams consisting of: geology, geophysics, finance/accounting, facility, D&C;, land and field staff. The position will also be responsible for identifying growth opportunities on developed and undeveloped land and support the team’s evaluation in capturing resource targets via crown land sales, farm-ins and asset or corporate acquisitions. The engineer will be accountable for managing all aspects of the budget and long range plan for these assets.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in Vermilion’s Health, Safety and Environmental program
Implement company strategy within the corporate business plan
Identify and develop exploitation opportunities and reservoir depletion strategies
Focus on increasing recovery factors through infill drilling, water flood optimization and improved technology
Recommend/implement area development plans leading to appropriate capital spending
Lead team members to deliver on areas of reserves and production rate additions
Work closely with field staff to optimize existing production and to coordinate certain operations activities
Maintain accurate company reserve bookings for assigned areas and provide technical justification to independent reserve evaluators
Provide engineering support to Business Development when evaluating Canadian acquisitions (as requested)
Apply previous oil and gas asset evaluation experience to the assessment of acquisition opportunities and the preparation of associated business proposals including risk assessment and economic evaluations
Provide engineering support for new play concept and acquisition evaluation including the application of practical reservoir and exploitation concepts in the assessment of cores, logs, PVT, completions and production/reserves
Evaluate Vermilion’s existing acreage for exploration opportunities and provide recommendation on the completion and re-completion of existing and new wells
Evaluate and optimize the appraisal and development strategies for any conventional exploration assets
Monitor competitor and analog activity outside of existing land base and identify opportunities for consolidation, farm-ins, new land acquisition and new technology applications
Prepare and deliver presentations to executive management regarding development opportunities
Additional responsibilities as assigned

First Year Deliverables
Own the budget preparation and tracking process
Own the Lougheed development plan
Own the Oungre waterflood optimization and expansion plans
Champion continuous improvement in respect to ‘Best in Class’ HSE

Essential Experience & Skills
Minimum of 10+ years of relevant oil and gas industry engineering experience is required
Strong exploitation and evaluations skills are required
Experience owning all aspects of the budget and long range plan
SE Saskatchewan experience is an asset
Waterflood experience/oil experience in conventional reservoirs is an asset
Excellent computer skills with proficiency in well and reservoir analysis and petroleum economics, Microsoft Office applications, Accumap, FieldView and Mosaic
Proficiency with OFM, PEEP, Mosaic and Value Navigator would be considered an asset
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, capable of presenting ideas to others in both formal and informal settings
Possess the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
Possess the ability to think creatively with ‘outside-the-box’ thinking and can create ideas and ultimately value that others may have missed
