Seismic Interpreter


  • The Seismic Interpreter Geophysicist is defined as Geoscientist who is a key technical contributor working in the area of Geophysics primarily, but has also applied knowledge in geology, geomechanics and petrophysics and belongs to the company's Technical Community.
  • The Seismic Interpreter Geophysicist is mainly involved in structural and stratigraphic interpretation of 3D and 2D seismic data for reservoir delineation and modeling.
  • Candidate is also involved in characterizing the reservoir and overburden through the attribute analysis of seismic traces to derive acoustic and elastic parameters and estimates of rock properties and run seismic geomorphology analysis for depositional and structural interpretation.
  • Traditional tasks include pre-drill seismic assessment of drilling hazards, which is an essential part of the well planning process, velocity modeling, depth conversion and depth prediction, pore pressure prediction from surface seismic, multicomponent seismic interpretation and time-lapse analysis and is usually involved in reservoir projects, full field reviews, field development planning and production development.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Condition well data for seismic integration within projects
  • Tasks may include data loading, well log editing, petrophysical analysis and rock physics analysis
  • Works on long term studies for clients, applying geophysical interpretation for prospect development or as an input to geological models for fluid flow simulation
  • Typically the position implies performing seismic synthetics, well tie analysis, surface seismic structural interpretation, seismic-attribute analysis and sequence stratigraphy, may involve applying amplitude versus offset analysis and recommendations for seismic acquisition and processing
  • Seismic data interpretation to be used for multiple purposes depending on project requirements
  • Components could consist of: Using inversion data for calculation of various reservoir properties such as, porosity, lithology, fluid type, and water saturation
  • Interpretation to establish background or Low Frequency Model and velocity trends for the process of inverting the seismic data to absolute acoustic impedance
  • Synthetics generation, well tie analysis, velocity modeling by integration of well derived and seismic derived velocity fields and trends, depth conversion, depth residual analysis and associated uncertainty for depth prediction
  • Tasks also require a thorough background in geology to contribute in the identification and correlation of stratigraphic units within and between wells using sequence stratigraphic concepts from well log domain to seismic domain
  • Structural analysis for fault, fracture and regional structural style identification
  • Analysis of fault sealing properties and trapping mechanism
  • Understanding of sediment logical analysis for definition and mapping of seismic faces types and associated properties
  • Understanding of rock physics and rock properties and impact on seismic data and attributes
  • Incorporate AVO/Inversion results into reservoir evaluation/characterization
  • Maintain and ensure consistency between structural interpretation and seismic inversion results
  • Identification of geological and geophysical uncertainty for risk analysis
  • Contribute to the identification and mapping of permeability barriers
  • Contribute to the identification and quantification of reservoir compartmentalization
  • Contribute to the identification of flow pathways and flow units
  • Understand at application level the use of direct and geostatistical modeling techniques where applicable
  • At higher seniority level, a significant part of the time should be devoted to people development, training, teaching and knowledge sharing, peer reviews and act as technical leader in a sub segment operational unit
  • Contributes in specific technical area with supervision
  • Maintain close interaction with other disciplines for optimum project quality

Additional Pre-screening Requirements:

  • Keep abreast of developments within well log acquisition and processing and stay current with company specialized software
  • Collaborate with other petro-technical disciplines and maintain close interaction with other disciplines for optimum project quality
  • Liaise with third clients, as required
  • May participate in a structured technical training program

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master's Degree or other higher Degree in Engineering or Pure or Applied Science
  • Preferred MSc or MA in Geoscience


  • BS with minimum 3 years of related experiences with minimum 1 year of related experience
  • PhD with 0 years of related experience if no degree, 9-16 yrs related work experience
  • Experience in the log acquisition/processing/interpretation of Geophysics or Petrophysical data in a commercial environment is preferred.

Additional Details:

  • Candidate will be paid a daily rate which will vary depending on experience.
  • 0-5 years of experience will start around $1100/day
  • 5-10 years of experience will start around $1200/day
  • 10+ years of experience will start at approximately $1400/day
