The USGS Central Energy Resources Science Center (CERSC) in Lakewood, Colorado is soliciting interest from qualified individuals for a Sedimentary Basin Modeler Geologist position to provide comprehensive knowledge and experience in developing, analyzing, integrating, and interpreting large geologic subsurface datasets to (1) create and evaluate 1-D burial history models to characterize conventional and unconventional petroleum resources; and to (2) develop and evaluate geologic and petroleum system models on oil and gas generation, migration and accumulation in sedimentary basins in support of domestic and international resource assessments. This multidisciplinary position develops geologic, burial history, and petroleum system models utilizing PetroMod Basin analysis techniques to simulate sedimentary basin processes such as basin formation and analysis, sequence stratigraphy, tectonics, sediment loading and subsidence, and petroleum generation, migration, and trapping processes to improve the understanding of petroleum systems. Successful applicants must meet qualifying education requirements, and specialized experience in 1-D burial history and petroleum systems modeling, must be proficient in integrating geologic processes such as burial, heat flow, fluid generation, migration, trapping, and preservation of hydrocarbon fluids within sedimentary basins. Assessment and research topics may also address the economic and environmental effects of energy resource production. Candidates must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of geologists, geochemists, geophysicists, and engineers. Excellent communication skills and ability to present scientific findings and results in a clear and concise manner, either through written form or oral presentation, is also required.
