Job Title: Technical Advisor
Location: Austin, TX
Reports to: VP of Reservoir Engineering and Planning
Provide subject matter expertise for our Reservoir Special Projects and Reservoir Characterization Team. The position will lead reservoir engineering modeling efforts to assist with optimization of development including focusing on well spacing and timing, along with other subsurface development decisions. Mentoring staff and raising the technical competence of the reservoir engineering staff is a major component of this role.
Essential functions :
Lead efforts to progress Reservoir Modeling in Permian Unconventional Resource (Midland and Delaware Basin)
Optimize and perform multiple sensitivities on 3D reservoir simulation and flow system models for development and/or exploration programs
Benchmark, evaluate and advance reservoir engineering technologies, methods, and workflows
Provide technical assurance for various reservoir engineering analysis being performed
Provide Reservoir Engineering and Economic Evaluation support for exploration efforts
Mentor staff and provide technical guidance to the development team
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in presenting to Executive Management and large audiences
Reservoir Modeling Experience in an Unconventional Resource Play
Ability to translate complicated reservoir concepts into practical development opportunities and decisions
Demonstrated a wide range in reservoir engineering skill sets including economic and technical analysis
Ability to communicate and mentor all staff levels
Working knowledge of the following: CMG Modeling software, Integration of geologic earth models and frac modeling into the reservoir modeling process, IHS Harmony, and Rock and fluid properties in unconventional resources
No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines . On occasion this position may be required to go to the field and monitor activity, therefore being exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, cold weather, extreme heat, and vibration.
This is largely a sedentary role: However, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and arms to reach. The worker is also required to have close visual acuity for viewing a computer terminal, reading, transcribing, and preparing and analyzing data and figures.
Position type and expected hours of work:
This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours. Some night and weekend work should be expected in this role during busy portions of the year.
Day trips to other corporate office locations should be expected. Overnight stays minimal for training and seminars. No more than 10% per year.
A minimum of 15 years of experience with at least 10 years focused on technical Reservoir Engineering for an operator
Bachelors of Science or higher in Petroleum Engineering or applicable engineering degree in a closely-related discipline
Permian and Delaware Basin is a strong plus, although any unconventional experience would be considered
