Job Type Permanent

(Unconventional Shale Technology) (Pioneer Natural Resources USA, Inc.; Irving, TX) Provide support for the planning and execution of capital programs, by developing and maintaining 3-D simulation models of unconventional shale assets using Petrel/Eclipse and other advanced engineering software. In close cooperation with geoscientists, develop characterizations of assets that fully integrate well, completion production and other data into a valid model to evaluate the effectiveness of current development well completions and spacing, and design improved development alternatives. Perform rate transient analysis (RTA) on the production data and relate the RTA results to simulation models to enhance understanding of well performance. Design and analyze pressure transient tests in unconventional reservoirs.

Develop workflows increase efficiency in analysis and evaluations. Execute acquisition of laboratory data describing rock properties and/or fluid properties relevant to characterizing reservoir production mechanisms. Apply reservoir simulation in order to model hydraulic fractures, discrete fracture networks, and enhanced permeability zones and relate simulations to production and completion data and volumetrics. Provide technical expertise in the area of reservoir engineering, reserves management and economic evaluations.

Perform reservoir characterization, well performance analysis, program look backs, decline curve analysis and project economics. Perform engineering analysis and make recommendations regarding strategy, implementation and execution in the context of development and exploitation. Perform reservoir engineering studies that provide the basis for reserve assignments, capital expenditures, prioritized future drilling locations, and well completion strategies. Communicate in a timely way with the Asset Team and other engineering disciplines at all stages of the process to ensure a technically credible, consistent and practical recommendations.

Make complex decisions regarding the technical approach to various studies and delegate which tasks should be given to engineering technicians. Evaluate new technologies or workflows that add value to Pioneer's bottom line. Perform Quality Check of existing lab reports for the field with PVTP software. Perform risk analysis with Monte Carlo Simulation for Pilot Area.

Develop and apply advanced multivariate analysis methods. Minimum Requirements: Master's Degree or U.S. equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related field, plus 2 years of experience at an operating company working on unconventional shale reservoirs including: development planning and optimization (including well spacing, completion design, and lateral length/placement); analyzing production data using Rate Transient Analysis; detailed economic analysis of development options using Aries software, (including incremental assessments); performing reserves estimation; and interpreting multiple forms of surveillance in unconventional shale reservoirs (including micro seismic, tracers, fluid compositions, and pressures). Must also have the following: 1 year of experience in field operations and hydraulic fracturing design in completion engineering of unconventional shale reservoirs at an operating company; any experience in performing statistical analysis of unconventional shale reservoirs at an operating company; any experience designing and analyzing pressure transient tests for unconventional shale reservoirs at an operating company; any experience in participating in industry consortia groups and presentations at conferences relating to unconventional shale reservoirs representing an operating company; any experience in performing numerical methods and programming using scientific computing tools (including mat lab) to unconventional shale reservoirs at an operating company; any experience performing advanced reservoir simulation of unconventional shale reservoirs at an operating company (based on geological models representing unconventional shale reservoirs and fractures systems, and history-matching prior to production forecasting); any experience producing and presenting field development plans relating to unconventional shale reservoirs to executive management at an operating company.
