Uxbridge, ONWe’re seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join our Buzzard team in Uxbridge.
CNOOC International is one of the largest oil producers in the UK North Sea, contributing more than 25% of the UK’s oil production and 10% of the country’s energy needs. We are the operator of Buzzard, Golden Eagle and Scott Platforms and are actively exploring in the Central North Sea and West of Shetland. In addition, our UK operations support exploration activity in Ireland and Africa
The Buzzard field was discovered in 2001 and came on stream in early 2007 with the development initially comprising of three platforms capable of processing at least 200,000 bbls/d of oil and 60 mmcf/d of gas.
The Senior Reservoir Engineer will as part of the Buzzard Subsurface multi-disciplinary team to add value to the Asset through proactive and critical analysis and interpretation of Buzzard reservoir performance. In addition, you will will fill a key role in the design, generation, and update of the Buzzard reservoir model and use this, in conjunction with analytical analyses, in a fully integrated fashion with other subsurface disciplines to make and support recommendations on production and water injection reservoir management strategies including proposing and justifying well interventions and future drilling locations. Proven experience in the North Sea and water flooding would be beneficial.
Successful candidates will be required to identify, recommend and critically challenge reservoir engineering work to the Buzzard Subsurface Management team. In addition to integrated working practices with the other subsurface disciplines, this position will require familiarity with Production Engineering, Production Operations and Drilling & Completion practices and close coordination with these teams located in Aberdeen.
The reservoir engineer will be expected to perform tasks to an agreed standard seeking peer review where necessary but also to critically review their own work and that of more junior staff.
Typical tasks include:
Design, creation, improvement and use of numerical models, including simulation and material balance models, that integrate all subsurface data and capture the range of subsurface uncertainty. Experience of integrated modelling with surface networks is also desirable. Models should be fit for purpose and well QC’d.
Use of analytical RE methods: Not every project requires use of a simulation model, and the reservoir engineer should recognise where application of analytical RE skills to provide technical interpretation is warranted.
Uncertainty analysis: any project should consider a range of inputs determined by the main uncertainties; use of probabilistic tools such as Crystal Ball or MEPO is encouraged. The concepts of Decision Analysis need to be understood and the use of decision trees and explicit definition of risk factors is encouraged.
Well test analysis. Any analysis will be non-unique, and the amount of information that can be derived will be dependent on the quality of the data.
Nodal and network analysis. Although the Production Engineering community will own the nodal and network analysis, reservoir engineers need to be comfortable with the models and be able to challenge the existing models if necessary.
Integrated, multi-disciplinary work on intervention planning, operations & interpretation of, e.g. PLT data, and similarly for well planning, well operations & post-well interpretations requiring awareness and understanding of other subsurface disciplines.
Economic analysis. The engineer will be expected to work closely with the economist and understand and, if necessary, challenge the outputs from economic analysis.
Who are we looking for?
Successful candidates will have a strong and broad knowledge of reservoir engineering, with particular experience in supporting exploration and appraisal activities experience preferred. As a subject matter expert and leader in the business you will have a proven track record of reservoir engineering activity. Beyond that, we are interested in hearing from candidates with:
Reservoir engineering experience including material balance, well test analysis, PVT analysis, nodal analysis, and uncertainty analysis
A good understanding of integration with other disciplines including geology, geophysics, petrophysics, drilling, completions and production technology
A collaborative working style and active ability to build networks
Knowledge sharing ability, participating in joint initiatives and problem-solving activities
The ability to prioritise under pressure and deliver timely results
Personal commitment to organisational and technical excellence with the ability to balance innovation and risk in addressing operational challenges
Someone who readily accepts accountability and insist on it from others
Experience across a variety of fluid types (from oil to gas condensates) would be beneficial
Experience in the UK North Sea is preferred
Experience with HPHT reservoirs is also important
