We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of a Reservoir Engineer within our Permian Resources New Mexico Delaware Basin Business Unit based in Houston, Texas.
The Reservoir Engineer is a critical member of a multi-disciplined team to maximize value from the Northwest NM asset, through capital investment and application of reservoir management skills to optimize base production. They will collaborate with team of geoscientists, production/facility engineers, and operations to identify, develop and execute drilling, well enhancement, and recompletion projects. The responsibilities also include providing production forecasting for the annual budget and booking reserves.
Base Production Optimization:
Work in conjunction with RMT PE’s, geologists, and operators to optimize existing base production through identification of production optimization projects (well enhancement, refracs, recompletions, lift revisions)Organize and lead base production surveillance effort through monthly well monitoring and periodic multi-disciplinary “Well Reviews”
Reservoir Engineering Studies and Associated Project Economic Evaluations, AFE’s, Proposals, and Project Execution:
Perform reservoir engineering studies in support of the RMT’s development plans.Contribute to and/or create development plans for targeted areas by collaborating with land, regulatory, drilling, completions, facilities, and operations to create complete economic evaluations to prioritize projects.Evaluate well performance relative to expectations and offset operators.Develop plans in collaboration with Geologists and Geophysicists for data acquisition needs in support of reservoir studies (seismic, well logs, etc) including project plans and cost estimates.Prepares and submits all required documentation and justification for AFE’s & AFE supplements.Supports the preparation of necessary information for regulatory documents (permits to drill, produce/sell, commingle, location staking, APD’s, etc.) far in advance of anticipated start dates to accommodate long regulatory lead time in NM.Assists in the project management of drilling projects. Knows how to utilize Oxy’s Well Tracking System to ensure project readiness coinciding with drilling rig schedule.Perform competitor analysis in surrounding acreage to monitor permit activity, growing plays, development strategies, cost trends, completion designs, well spacing, landing zones, flowback methodology, and artificial lifting trends.Support Inventory Growth and Well Design and Analysis Team to maximize value of assigned asset.
Reserves Management & Business Planning Support:
Supports RMT in reserve review efforts, providing technical support for base and wedge profilesSupports RMT business planning efforts, assuring PEEP (economics & reserves model) is consistent with current depletion, approved wedge investment, and probable/possible reserve cases. Assures PEEP contains appropriate drilling and workover project data.Develop 5 year development plan and associated production forecasts, reserves, and capital requirements.
OBO and Working Interest Owner Engagement:
Analyzes OBO proposals and makes participation recommendations.Prepares / submits necessary documentation for projects involving WI partners (AFEs) and presents project summary.Prepares for and presents project recommendations and project status updates as needed in support of working interest owner requirements and requests.
B.S. or higher degree in Engineering5+ years prior reservoir engineering experience in unconventional forecasting and reserve bookingAbility to demonstrate an academic understanding of basic technical principles, theories and concepts within Reservoir Engineering.Ability to add value by analyzing, planning, justifying, and executing capital drilling and workover projects in stacked pay and discontinuous reservoir settings.Experience in various depositional environments and depletion mechanisms desired.Ability to learn and achieve proficiency in reservoir engineering practices including, but not limited to, material balance, production surveillance, and performance forecasting.Able to perform economic evaluations of complex development objects including risk analysis.Understanding of O&G; finance in relation to reserves and economic evaluations.Proficiency in technical and economic software packages (required: PEEP, OFM; desired: Kappa suite, MBAL, Spotfire, Eclipse or VIP)Ability to build numerical models (Eclipse, VIP) for scenario analysis preferred.Ability to interact effectively with team members and working interest partners; good interpersonal skills with informal leadership and mentoring capabilities.Excellent communication and presentation skills.High proficiency in Excel.Able to make technically and economically sound recommendations despite incomplete information.
