Reporting to the manager of the Meadow Creek resource team, you will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary subsurface team on Suncor’s first greenfield SAGD project since Firebag. Meadow Creek is expected to grow Suncor’s production by 120,000bbl/d with project sanction currently planned for late 2019.
You will use your expertise to:
Work on a multi-disciplinary team to develop and optimize a full life of field SAGD depletion plan (for a 3.6+ billion barrel resource and over 100 SAGD well pads)
Support facility design efforts (a $4.8B capital spend) with the integrated Meadow Creek project team
Forecast production performance using simulation, analytical, empirical and probabilistic methods
Establish certainty in local subsurface make-up water supply and disposal capacity
Perform caprock analysis and provide recommendations into caprock integrity assessments and studies
Develop SAGD surveillance and monitoring plans within the pay zone, caprock, water source and disposal zones, groundwater zones and surface (heave)
Recommend and coordinate special reservoir studies related to modeling and lab work
Identify and progress opportunities and technologies to improve economic and sustainability metrics
Support planning and execution of annual drilling programs with budgets up to $45M per year
Support preparation of formal applications, responses, and other submissions to various regulatory bodies
Collaborate and align with Nexen, joint venture partner at Meadow Creek

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
Seven years of related experience
A professional engineering designation through APEGA
Prior thermal in situ experience (development, regulatory, operations)
Excellent organization and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
Well-developed critical thinking skills
A proven ability to manage numerous projects and changing priorities under tight deadlines
A track record of continuous improvement and creative process enhancements

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
There will be some travel to site in this role
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
