Marathon Oil Corporation is an international energy company engaged in exploration and production; oil sands mining; and integrated gas. Marathon Oil has a major leasehold position in the core of the Eagle Ford Shale formation in South Texas.  The Company holds acreage in the Eagle Ford, focusing on Atascosa, DeWitt, Gonzales, and Karnes counties.

Marathon Oil's Eagle Ford Subsurface team is seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer to support our Kenedy group. The successful candidate will support the Eagle Ford subsurface team primarily with company operated assets. The candidate will be expected to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and management in support of a variety of development activities and functions. This position will report to a Subsurface Manager for the Eagle Ford Asset Team and will be located in Houston.



  • Complete monthly updates/semi-annual decline work and required documentation in a timely fashion
  • Complete required documentation for proposal of new pads and AFEs
  • Work with geoscientist counterpart to develop and update field-wide plans of development
  • Work with all departments to optimize development plans
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on acquisition opportunities
  • Develop shut-in and perforation recommendations for all new wells in area of responsibility
  • Complete all required decline work for CPC and planning forecast updates
  • Develop area type curves, decline producing wells, and estimate reserves using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Conduct evaluation of flowback performance on all new wells and provide updates to management on short term performance
  • Conduct surveillance of all wells in area of responsibility on a weekly basis
  • Communicate with operations counterparts regularly to discuss performance improvements
  • Conduct studies to identify and quantify trends in performance
  • Collaborate with various teams to design pilots and trials to identify opportunities for well performance enhancement and implement/share learnings across the organization
  • Conduct production data analysis to provide feedback to identify best completion and choke management strategies


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Science. Major: Engineering, Petroleum preferred
  • 3+ years experience supporting multi-disciplinary teams in a technical capacity preferred, Oil and gas industry experience preferred, Unconventional experience preferred, Eagle Ford development experience is a plus
  • Aries, OFM, Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis in Excel and PowerPoint, Spotfire/Programming proficiency is preferred, Experience with VOLTS, WellView and/or ArcGIS preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, teamwork, analytical skills and strong organization & planning skills
