About this Opportunity:

Cenovus Energy is looking to fill the position of Reservoir Engineer. Reporting to the Group Lead Asset Evaluations, in the New Resource Play team the successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary subsurface team responsible for evaluation of geology and reservoir architecture, detailed competitor analysis from analogue reservoirs including producing wells, type curves and building reservoir models to assess a multitude of recovery techniques and EOR opportunities to evaluate and progress emerging assets through pre-commercialization. Additionally the candidate will be responsible for project planning, development planning, appraisal and economics of the various identified development strategies. The Reservoir Engineer will also be responsible to provide support for various A&D assessments carried out by the Asset Evaluations Team.

Work Environment:

This is a fulltime position located in Calgary, AB.


  • Work in a cross-functional teams, including geologists, geophysicists, engineers and innovators
  • Work collaboratively with the Subsurface team, Regulatory, LCR, Facilities, and Operations to build schedules, ensure project progression, and continue on-going de-risking
  • Identify industry analogues based on reservoir description and recovery process for competitor analysis
  • In collaboration with subsurface team set & analyze routine and special core analysis, petrophysics, reservoir structure, strata, oil and fluid sampling, and generation PVT relationships
  • Generate and fine-tune reservoir models from existing data and simulate various recovery schemes
  • Plan and execute field testing in conjunction with the Subsurface team, Regulatory, Completions, and Operations
  • Generate type curves and range of performance on a statistical and risk basis for various recovery processes
  • Generate analytical and empirical model efforts to characterize performance of various recovery schemes
  • Contribute towards innovative exploitation techniques and schemes
  • Build and asses development scenarios and appraisal strategies to de-risk and evaluate assets
  • Build economic models to create valuations of various development scenarios

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • APEGA Engineer with 5+ years of experience with reservoir/exploitation engineering
  • Strong business acumen, project management, and economic evaluation skill set
  • Familiar with oil and gas production systems, reservoir and/or production engineering, with exposure to EOR
  • Proficient in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Understanding of geological principles
