Birchcliff Energy is seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer with a mandatory requirement to have specific skills and demonstrated track record in Reservoir Engineering and Advanced Data Analytics (ADA). A second objective for this role would be to seek out someone with an aptitude and desire to become a power user of Decision Space (DS). As a member of the Pouce Coupe team, reporting to the Asset Manager, this role is considered critical and unique to support continuous improvements in the exploration and development efforts at Birchcliff Energy.

Key Responsibilities – Reservoir Engineering

 Conduct production data analysis to optimize hydraulic fracture spacing, well spacing and draw down strategies with a mandate to increase understanding of key drivers for well performance and field economics.

 Conduct PVT studies to predict reservoir behaviour and assist with development strategies.  Build numerical simulation models in CMG or equivalent simulation packages that will integrate

with 3D field development models.  Conduct regional reservoir studies in the Montney to support development strategies and

resource assessments.  Perform general exploitation engineering, project economics and project management.  Technical liaison with subsurface, operations and land staff on regional development efforts.  Assist Asset Manager in developing capital, reserve and production budgets and outlooks.  Assist Operations in developing operating budgets.  Steward company reserve bookings – new well assignments, economics, corporate reserves.  Identify and evaluate acquisition candidates within the core regions.  Business liaison on joint venture matters with partners and third-party processors.

Key Responsibilities – Decision Space Subsurface Modelling

 Become a power user of Decision Space (DS) to support Birchcliff’s full field development plans.  Help define Birchcliff’s Geomodelling Goals by providing guidance on reservoir multiphase

behaviour and the uncertainties and sensitivities associated with reservoir simulation.  Build and run full field development scenario analysis to optimize the impact of super pads and

well configurations for multi-zone development.  Increase the integration between DS and Birchcliff’s 5 year plan using DS geospatial planning to

export key well attributes for development of 5 year cash flow plans.  Reserves and resource reconciliation and 3D visualization in DS.  Build 3D visualization of D&C operations using wellbore diagrams depicting ports, frac events,


Key Responsibilities– Advanced Data Analytics

 (Big) Data Analytics of large multi-disciplinary data sets using multivariable statistical (MV stats) analysis to look for trends and relationships to seek out drivers of well performance.

 Build internal expertise on machine learning and data analytic techniques.  Effectively train and transfer knowledge to Birchcliff engineering and geoscience staff in the

application of ADA methods to further advance our business capabilities.

Education, Skills and Abilities

 Mandatory requirement to have proven and demonstrable skills 5+ years’ experience in Reservoir Engineering with core competencies such as PVT, flow simulation and Pressure Transient and Rate Transient Analysis.

 Mandatory experience working with integrated 3D earth models.  Mandatory proven and demonstrable experience working with VBA, R and or Python.  Knowledge on univariate and multivariate data modeling techniques.  Strong background in data structure, data flow and experience in manipulating and analyzing

data from various databases (PPDM, IHS, CDL, Pason, PVR, etc.) using SQL and other appropriate tools.

 Knowledge of theory and application of predictive analytics and multivariable analytical methods.

 Knowledge on benefits, limitations and pitfalls of applying specific statistical and machine learning approaches to specific datasets and problems.

 P.Eng designation with APEGA certification.  Experience with unconventional reservoirs in the Peace River Arch would be an asset.  Strong background in exploitation, reservoir and reserve management.  Competency in production (optimization), completion and facility projects.  Experience working with both oil and gas reservoirs.  Experience with IHS/Fekete software packages (Harmony, Piper, Decline Plus) would be an

asset.  Results oriented team player possessing the tenacity and determination to make a difference

balanced with the skill, patience and tactfulness to accomplish projects in a harmonious manner.
