We are currently looking to hire a problem solver with strong applied mathematics and data science background to develop the next generation of technologies to image the earth subsurface. In the job you will collaborate with a team of elite Research Geophysicists to deliver high-end imaging solutions using our topnotch supercomputers platform.
Working as Research Geophysicist, you will help identify new solutions in seismic imaging by adapting recent innovations from computing technology, data sciences and applied mathematics to seismic prospecting. You will develop new algorithms for model building, migration, and inversion to solve challenging geophysical problems. This position provides opportunities to present results at internal and external conferences. This critical role requires aptitude for taking quick initiative, thinking big, and delivering results to help drive rapid deployment of new technologies.
Your work will involve:
Contributing to research and development of next generation model building, imaging, and inversion tools.
Optimizing new and existing processing solutions for production processing.
Generating publication material for geophysical journals and technical reviews.
Interacting and supporting the operations team.
Conducting geophysical studies as requested by the business units or R&D; manager.
Generating user documentation for commercialized products.
Providing subject matter geophysical expertise to PGS business units and operations.
PhD in Physics/Computer Applied Math/Geophysics or equivalent knowledge level.
Experience in programing proficiency.
Strong background in inverse problems and numerical inversion.
Excellent in computational mathematics: e.g. linear and nonlinear solvers, data mining, machine learning, and optimization.
Good programming skills e.g., C, C++, Fortran, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, MATLAB, LAPACK, ScaLAPACK, MPI, OpenMP, PETSc.
Knowledge of geophysical theory and seismic imaging.
Familiarity with seismic processing methods.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.
