Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Research Geophysicist, based in Westhill, AberdeenshireResponsibilities will include:Conducting innovative research and producing results in written form within timescales set and to an appropriate standardInitiating learning opportunities to facilitate the development of skills and knowledgeActing as a motivated and adaptable team member and coach for internshipsConduct research into one or more of the advanced geophysics projects (coding algorithms and testing them on synthetic and real data) in accordance with the defined work plan as independent stand alone professional under the authority of the Head of sectionDevelop a sound understanding of best technical practice and apply this routinely.Develop, and enhance contacts with Company staff, for the execution of projects.Develop, maintain and enhance professional and academic contacts outside the Company Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of projects undertakenMonitor technical aspects of contracted research that fall within speciality.Initiate studies / analyses to resolve technical issues.Publish and report research results internally and externally both in written form in technical reports and professional journals and as presentations at internal and external professional and academic conferences and seminars.Develop techniques and/or software code that can be patented.Provide mentorship, guidance and support to intern students undertaking independent research projects as part of post-graduate degree courses.Qualifications & ExperienceMSc or PhD in Applied Math, Geophysics, Computational Science and/or EngineeringRelevant and appropriate geophysical research experience within academia and/or industry in area of wavefield-based imaging and inversion for reservoir characterization and time-lapse (4D) seismic monitoring.Proven programming skills and experience with demonstrated high-level proficiency in at least three of the following programming languages under Linux/Unix operating system: Fortran90, C/C++, Java, Matlab, Python/Julia.Outstanding knowledge and proven skills in: advanced numerical methods and optimization, seismic inverse theory, and parallel computing on internal platform.Strong technical, written/oral communication and high-level of interpersonal skillsContract positionIf you feel that you are well suited to the above opportunity and would like to find out more then please contact Orion Group for more information or apply by forwarding your current CV quoting reference 920916 Our role in supporting diversity and inclusionAs an international workforce business, we are committed to sourcing personnel that reflects the diversity and values of our client base but also that of Orion Group.
