Research and Processing Geophysicist
SMG is now looking to appoint a Geophysicist to work within an international team with the numerical expertise and skills to research quantitative processing and interpretation of microgravity data, create workflows, and develop SMG’s algorithms and software that support both near-term project and long-term development of products. You will be expected to explore and create innovative alternative/parallel workflow tools to optimise and improve uniqueness of our deliverables. Initially you will be expected to cover all angles of gravity processing support.
We are looking for a passionate pro-active self-starter, who can thrive in a multi-disciplinary and entrepreneurial environment who is numerate and versatile at problem solving and interested in new technology and it’s application.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
To this end you would be expected to:
Perform data handling/conditioning, processing, modelling of gravity data using both geometrical models and density models.(including forward modelling of reservoir data to gravity response, and inversion of gravity data to reservoir properties).Research methods and create pre-feasibility and post-acquisition gravity QC, processing and modelling workflows of gravity data through to reservoir engineer/customer handover and reservoir characterization.Develop and run workflows for time-lapse gravimetric geophysical surveys.Explore and create innovative alternative/parallel workflow techniques that optimise and provide unique customer answersCreate/own the company data model for gravity data storage.Where and when possible, create and protect company intellectual property and publish at conferences.
Required experience and knowledge
PhD in related a geophysical discipline with a strong background in gravity methodExpertise in all aspects of gravity data processing and modelling including numerical simulation and inverse modelling with exposure to Binary, Continuous Variable, and Coupled inversion and Fuzzy logic techniques.Expertise in quantitative interpretation of gravity and time-lapse gravity dataExperience with reservoir characterization (well logging)Exposure to leading research projects in related areasFamiliarity or experience in multi-phase flow modelling
