Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is searching for a Geologist or Environmental Scientist to support environmental compliance, investigation and restoration projects in the St. Louis office to join our Capital Projects Group team in St. Louis, MO. We are looking for self-motivated candidates who are able to work as part of a dynamic project team; think clearly; has good technical and writing skills; and is knowledgeable with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) programs. Key Responsibilities Under direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represent Wood and interact in a professional manner with Wood personnel, and client and subcontractor representatives while on assignmentField activities may include, but not be limited to, soil boring logging, groundwater monitoring well installations, collecting soil, groundwater, vapor, air, and sediment samples, subcontractor oversight during assessment and remediation activities including drilling, excavations, pilot studies and system installationOffice activities may include, but not be limited to, analysis and interpretation of hydrogeologic data, soil and water analytical results and preparation of reportsPrepare tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site mapsPerform statistical analysis of data and work with Excel spreadsheetsWorking knowledge of Access and / or AutoCAD and / or GIS and gINTDevelop alternative TACO remediation objectives for soil, groundwater, and other applicable media Research scientific literature/regulations, prepare permit applications/regulatory compliance reportsFollow Wood/client safety standards, and prepare site-specific Health and Safety Plans/Job Hazard AnalysesPlan and coordinate project with staff and subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) ensure compliance to all task procedures and policies while performing office assignmentsParticipate in work plan preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates) Manage field communication, scheduled with PM and project team membersAssist with procurement of subcontractors and materialsAbility to work on many projects at one time, and multi-task
Skills / Qualifications
B.S. in Geology, Hydrogeology or Environment Science (ASBOG/IL Professional Licensing preferred)Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills, but also be a team player8+ years of solid field experience (soil borings, well installations, multi-media sampling)6+ years report preparation with good technical writing skillsKnowledge of/experience in application of RCRA/TACO environmental regulations is a plusGood data management and general organizational skillsStrong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS OfficeFlexible to work outside normal business hours as required40-hour HAZWOPER training completed with subsequent annual refreshersHands on knowledge of the use of field equipmentAbility to communicate clearly with project manager, senior staff and contractors on work assignmentsValid driver's license, operate pickup truck and/or other motor vehicle(s), and travel to project sitesMust pass drug screening, background check and physical examPhysical DemandsAbility to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds, use hands to operate field equipment, and wear a respirator as requiredWork at remote sites around construction equipment, drill rigs and environmental contamination; be subject to periods of extreme heat/cold and other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity
