The remit of the Operations Geologist in an oil cluster is to translate well proposals into operational procedures according to functional specifications. Liaise with Geomatics team to check on new oil location accessibility. Liaise with Well Engineering during drilling operations. Provide geological interpretation and support for well activities. Monitor well progress while drilling. Adjust formation prognosis and well track if needed after consultation with production geologist. Identify and communicate HSE critical well activities related to pressures, pore fill & formation characteristics and uncertainties. Provide operational geology support in case of emergency response situations. Collect, interpret and store well data.
Deliver proposals for Development and Appraisal wells which may be in a complicated overburden (salt, shallow gas and shales) and which may encounter HP, HT and H2S bearing formations.
•Liaise with PE staff in Development Planning team to arrive at best timing and functional specifications for the wells.
•Liaise with Geomatics team on urban planning issues and ensure drilling site is accessible for well operations.
•Identify opportunities for improving well planning processes, well design and formation evaluation requirements.
•Liaise with Well Engineering team to arrive at a well design meeting business requirements
•Monitor, proactively intervene, geo-steer and advice during well operations
•If required, take a leading role in emergency response situations
•Lead completion meetings after completing reservoir section drilling
•Close-out and feed-back on well results
