Oil Search was established in Papua New Guinea in 1929 and is the country’s largest oil producer and private employer. Over 95% of its assets are in PNG, where it holds oil and gas production and exploration licences plus a 29% interest in the US$19 billion PNG LNG Project. This world class liquefied natural gas (LNG) development, which delivered its first LNG sales in May 2014, has quadrupled Oil Search’s production and transformed the Company into a major LNG exporter. The Production Engineer plays a crucial coordination role between the production asset, Central Processing Area, and all technical teams in the organisation, including but not limited to: Field Engineering, Reservoir Surveillance & Production Surveillance.
Identify and communicate changes to the Central Processing Facility (CPF) Asset Risk Profile [Safety Risk and Risk to Production]
Drive optimal hydrocarbon recovery by analysing production performance Identify opportunities to maximise production
Provide production and risk inputs into activity prioritisation
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Optimisation of Production Performance – Through the analysis of all production daily and weekly data. Identification of improvement opportunities. Monitor well performance and provide short-cycle advice on required changes
Identify and Reduce Risk – Through the development and management of the CPF Asset Risk Profile
Identify Opportunities to Increase Production – Through analysis of monthly and quarterly production performance data, develop and scope opportunities for consideration
Prioritisation of CPF Activities – Provide production and risk data as inputs into the Integrated Activity Plan. Advise CPF Supervisor on daily priorities
Quality Control – Provide quality control over all manually entered data at the CPF. This includes but is not limited to well production data, annulus pressures, chemical usage, loss accounting, etc
Investigate Incidents – Provide front-line engineering support for any CPF related incidents
Technical Development – Delivers technical
Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum or Process)
5 - 10 years’ oil and gas industry experience
Demonstrated experience in optimising gas lifted oil production wells, high GOR wells and gathering systems
Strong understanding of crude oil processing and gas production, compression and export facilities
Sound understanding of well performance analysis, optimisation & troubleshooting, production optimisation processes, nodal analysis and flow assurance management practices relating to upstream oil and gas operations
Sound understanding of reservoir management principles, including gas injection, well construction, intervention and integrity management methods
Willingness to collaborate and communicate across a range of technical abilities and experience levels in a multicultural setting
Experience working in a field-based environment, ideally in a developing country
