The Duvernay Production Engineer reports to the Production Engineering Manager – Technical Services and will be responsible for planning and executing the production engineering activities of the Duvernay asset in support of optimizing the production and profitability. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta.
Compile and analyze available information in order to propose the conceptual design of well completion (open hole / encased hole, intelligent completion, completion for joint production, sand control, drilling design and its requirements, etc.); identify, evaluate and propose technology strategies to improve the completion of wells, their productivity or injectivity
Analyze the different lifting systems for the well and the asset, to propose the most appropriate one and optimize the asset's production and profitability; Analyze the operation performance and the failures of artificIal lift systems; Analyze and define changes in production methods during the production time of the well
Model and analyze the well's productivity and potential, identifying discrepancies and their possible causes, in order to propose solutions with the aim of improving productivity and assuring that production reaches its potential; Model the IPR and VLP well curves, calculate and periodically update the wells production potential, identify well optimization opportunities through the well modeling like: well stimulation, re-perforation,etc. Generate programs as required
Integrate, cross-check and adjust the surface and subsurface models with the current operating conditions
Evaluate the "subsurface to surface" integrated production system (reservoir-wells-gathering network / Injection) identifying bottlenecks and their possible causes, in order to propose solutions with the aim of optimizing the asset's production. Evaluate actions to be carried out in different scenarios (What If...); validation of Well Test results, define detailed plan of well intervention and workovers and define the schedule priorities, analyze the production deferment volume, and causes, identifying corrective actions, analyze any deviation of the injection by well, identifying corrective action, ensure delivery of produced hydrocarbons (complying with technical specs) including monitoring and surveillance of processing facilities
Flow Assurance; monitor the results of specific control actions in producing wells or injectors, such as: corrosion inhibitors, bactericidal, etc., monitor the formation of hydrates, salts, paraffin, etc., as well as proposing solutions; establish the maximum variations of acceptable flow to limit the generation of slugs
Define the acquisition plan for the data needed to monitor production, operations and the performance of the reservoir, and to ensure compliance with the production plan. Detect deviations from the asset's production plan and their causes, in order to propose corrective action
Analyse the asset's daily closing figures for production, including production distribution in the wells (back allocation) and deferred production, for their validation and later publication in the respective reports. Generate and provide weekly, monthly and annual production efficiency, production deferment and sales production forecasts
Periodically review operational processes to minimize operational costs and improve aspects related to Safety and Environment, by means of applying better practices and the availability of new technologies
Regular field travel to meet with operations and facility construction staff
Active involvement with completions, workovers and facility projects
Qualifications and Key Skills
University Degree in Engineering and a member of APEGA
Minimum of 5 – 10 years of relevant Production Engineering experience with direct experience in oil and retrograde condensate reservoirs
Previous experience with Gas Lift, Rod Pumping, and Plunger Lift is required
Independent self –starter with the strong ability to take initiative and influence
Experience with Nodal Analysis and ability to generate dynamic well and system models
Previous experience in resources/shale play drilling and completion operations
Familiar and proficient with the following software: Spotfire, Energy Components, Value Navigator and IPM Suite
