Purpose of Role
To provide petrophysical expertise to support Cairn’s exploration, development and new venture activities.

Principal Duties
Formation evaluation based on both vintage and modern LWD and wireline log data analysis and interpretation.
Provide technical petrophysical support for G&G; and engineering studies, including QC and analysis of well log data, cores and fluids
QC and/or production of written reports of data analysis, results and procedures
Petrophysical evaluation of conventional and tight clastics and carbonate reservoirs, preferably with experience in the North, Central and SouthAtlantic margins, Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean basins and UK Norway Basins
Provide technical petrophysical support and relevant input data for rock physics analysis and quantitative seismic interpretation
Expertise in petrophysical evaluation software, preferably IP
During well planning stage, contribute to WEC Gated process by design and costing of an effective Formation Evaluation Programme
During drilling operations, design and agree with logging contractor, asset and function actual logging programmes for effective Formation Evaluation;
Deliver both quick-look and detailed petrophysical evaluations on time for real-time drilling decisions
Tendering, evaluating, negotiating and managing wireline, LWD and core analysis contracts
QC of log data quality; proven ability to evaluate old vintage and modern log suites; composite log generation; ability to make recommendations on tool selection and use of appropriate technology, management of formation pressure and fluid sampling programmes, conventional and special core analysis
Integration of surface and subsurface geological and geophysical data into petrophysical interpretation to understand, describe, evaluate and document hydrocarbon potential.
Play, prospect and lead analysis, risk assessment and volumetrics, stochastic and deterministic.
Interaction with and management of 3rd party petrophysical studies and projects.
Input to and delivery of exploration documents, including but not limited to regional and block evaluations, well proposals and evaluations, relinquishment proposals and reports as appropriate.
Presentations to partners TCM, OCM and MCM meetings and at peer reviews, TAB’s etc as and when required.
Database maintenance for self and others as requested (IP, ODM, Paradigm, Petrel, GIS, Documentum etc,).
Written and verbal reporting and appropriate presentation.
At this level, often working multiple projects and often mentoring and coaching of more junior staff in all the above.
The role would occasionally require the individual to act as a participant in the Crisis Response Team (CRT) or the Emergency Response Group (ERG) on call rota.
Role is likely to involve some business travel on behalf of the company..

Skills/Experience Required
Good Geological/Geophysical or possibly relevant Engineering or physics degree, preferably Masters and/or Ph.D.
Relevant Experience/Skills
Geological skills acquired at university and in the field
Extensive worldwide experience in an oil company, oilfield contracting company or relevant field of work including at least the following:
petrophysics formation evaluation integrated with geophysical and geological data
