About the role
BHP Petroleum currently operates exploration licenses within the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) in the USA and Mexico, and will be involved in active and extensive exploration activities in these areas for the next several years. As a member of the Western GOM Exploration License Team, the candidate will be responsible for the technical work required to assess the value of various exploration opportunities in the US and Mexico in support of well investment decisions, farm-in decisions, prospect inventory ranking, lease sales and prospect maturation activities within the Volume-Risk-Value framework. Additionally, the candidate will be closely involved in the value of information analysis in support of seismic data acquisition decisions.

The evaluation methods involve development of fit-for-purpose dynamic models that reflect subsurface uncertainty ranges, geologic complexity, relevant analogues, and potential development scenarios. Candidate’s ability to develop and execute rapid and flexible workflows is key to this role. The role has the potential to include planning and drilling of an exploration well and post-well activates. Participation in data rooms is another aspect of this role. The position reports directly to the Exploration Manager of the Western GOM License Team.

This position is a grade 11 role.

In this role you will:
Lead engineering evaluations in support of GOM Exploration teams including portfolio inventory, prospect maturation, lease sale activities and farm-in opportunities
Lead value of information framing and analysis in coordination with the Investment Evaluation team
Integrate petrophysical, pressure and fluid data with geological prospect descriptions to derive realistic ranges for well production profiles to inform possible development scenarios, using rapid evaluation workflows
Apply judgement to determine most appropriate forecasting methods, including applying type curves, material balance analysis, integrated production modeling, analytical models, and 3-D numerical simulation
Contribute to reservoirs deliverability risk assessment in the Volume-Risk-Value process
Characterize prospects and estimate their value in order to identify drill candidates
Interact with JV partners, participate in data rooms
Present results to assurance and management
Mentor early career team members
Collaborate with other engineers (reservoir and production) in Exploration, Appraisal, and Production
Meet all project schedules, deliverables, and subsurface milestones as outlined in the subsurface work plans
About You
