Description

The Principal Geoscientist is the company’s premier expert in all aspects of geoscience including geological characterization, petrophysics, and geophysics. As part of a matrix organization, the Principal Geoscientist needs to guide projects mainly through influence rather than direct reporting relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Geoscientist’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop and enhance companywide geoscience policies and procedures for reservoir characterization, Oil in Place determination, log acquisition, and seismic acquisition
Develop new geoscience tools or testing of new commercial tools as required
Develop, provide and/or organize geoscience-specific training
Develop progression guidelines for geoscience functions
Provide input into geoscience assignments and skills/competencies assessment of staff
Manage geoscience studies including geological model construction, petrophysical studies, and geophysical studies
Ensure geoscience standards are followed and updated as necessary
Conduit for transfer of technology and innovation across geoscience disciplines
Responsible for approval of OOIP (Original Oil In Place) studies related to corporate reserves forecasts
Develop structured peer review process for exploration and exploitation prospects
Approve resource and reserve estimates for exploration and exploitation prospects
Ensure Operations Geoscience support is provided to drilling and workover teams

Required Skills and Abilities
20+ years of related experience with progressive increase in accountability
Advanced degree (Master and/or PhD) in Geology or a related field
Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholder decisions without direct reporting relationships
Experience managing in a matrix environment while successfully mentoring, coaching, and developing talent
Exposure to conventional assets, particularly in reservoir characterization associated with development projects
Strong background in carbonate geology
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders

Environmental & Physical Demands
Work will primarily be conducted in an office environment; travel may be required to district and field offices and/or oil and gas production facilities, with the occasional need to wear personal protective equipment. Position requires the ability to frequently communicate information and to manage the possible stress of an office environment. Work may include being stationary for long periods of time, with occasional movement about the office. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds is required. Position requires constant operation and viewing of a computer screen and other office machinery.
