Following the acquisition of a portfolio of producing oilfields in Gabon, West Africa, Assala Energy is seeking an experienced and versatile Principal Geologist to optimise asset development.
Summary of Role
The appointee will serve as a Geoscience Technical Authority, providing expertise with analysis, interpretation and integration of technical data into geological models of Assala’s operated and non-operated asset portfolio in Gabon.
Specifically, the appointee will be required to: Coordinate multi- disciplinary subsurface studies incorporating geological, petrophysical and petroleum engineering data; Analyse, estimate and incorporate the range of key geological uncertainties into a robust suite of subsurface static models built upon the Schlum berger Petrel software platform ; Identify field development opportunities, including infill drilling, recompletions and near-field appraisal; Provide recommendations to Senior Management team and B oard based upon rigorous analysis and int erpretation; Present technical material to Joint Venture partners and Gabo nese Government representatives on the company’s behalf; Detail the r ange of oil and gas in place resources in each asset accounting for identified geological uncertainties , prepare and give detailed presentations to external reserves auditors and technical bank representatives to suppo rt corporate reserves financing; Perform peer reviews on models and interpretations prepared by th e Gabon based colleagues for functional sign-off process; Review the company’s geoscience database to identify opportunities for enhancing reservoir characterisation through additional data acquisition or re processing ; Supervise /mentor less senior Geoscientists to ensure that they work effectiv ely and develop their competencies ; Assist with due diligence evaluation of new projects and assets thro ugh participation in technical data rooms; Represent the c ompany at technical and operating committee meetings, workshops, and industry technical conferences; Periodically provide technical training and facilitate skills transfer to Gabon based employees.
Required Experience / Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Geoscience;
Minimum 15 years’ experience as Geologist / Geoscien tist in a variety of operating e nvironments, a significant proportion of which should have been spent with an agile, independent international E&P; o perator;
Robust knowledge of West African onshore pre- salt reservoirs and play types, and specifically pre-salt reservoir characteristics;
S trong understanding of mature oilfield operations and methods used to identify field redevelopment opportunities, including drilling and recompletion targets;
Familiarity with reservoir quality and fault characterisation workflows using 2D and 3D seismic and well log data;
Sound knowledge of Petrophysical and Petroleum Engineering d ata types , such as RFT/MDT/RST, and experience with incorporating such data in to static and dynamic studies ;
Expert user of Schlumberger Petrel Geoscience software, including G eostatistical and Geophysical analysis;
Experienced with providing geological Technical Assurance to multi-disciplinary teams undertaking field development projects;
Team l eadership and training experience , including demonstrating Petrel Geoscience workflows to less experienced users;
An effective communicator, creative, pragmatic, and comfortable with innovation;
Experienced with presenting complex technical material to Joint Venture partners, government agencies and financial institutions in pursuit of the company’s investment goals
Ability to compile thoroughly docu mented technical reports and presentations.
