The Exploration (EXP) business area represents an exciting centre of expertise and career development. Statoil is a leading global exploration company, focusing on early access at scale, drilling high impact wells and exploiting core positions, supported by a strong technology strategy.
EXP USA is responsible for all exploration efforts in US and Mexico, with a focus on the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). The team is split in three units:
The Regional group provides the regional tectonostratigraphic framework, the full play spectrum and a view on future access opportunities
The Access group is responsible for the detailed analysis of prioritized plays, the development of lead and prospect descriptions and the process of accessing new opportunities through lease-sales and/or farm-ins;
The Asset group is responsible for maturing accessed prospects to drillable status and managing the transition of discoveries to our development and production group.
At this point in time, building a competitive prospect portfolio in the greater GoM is a priority for EXP USA. Consequently, the ability to identify and evaluate prospects using a rigorous play-based methodology is a critical key competency for the organization.
Identify and mature prospects in a collaborative environment using a play based approach
Have sufficient understanding of sub-regional analysis to underpin our access strategy for new exploration opportunities
Ability to assess volumetric ranges and make risk assessments of prospects
Work to build a portfolio of possible access options
Involvement in assessing farm-in opportunities and recommending high graded options for access
To liaise across the business to assure alignment and agreement on access opportunities
To work closely with key support teams to ensure effective and focused specialist support is applied to prospects.
Networking with supporting functions/units in Norway such as discipline advisors, R&D and other technical units as required.
Minimum MSc degree in geosciences
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in exploration
Demonstrated ability to work with and lead groups of professionals
Ability to be hands-on, drive improvement and work in multicultural environment
Have the patience and experience to mentor less experienced staff
Experience with portfolio management an advantage
Pro-active, self-motivated and strong networking skills
Enjoy and thrive in a collaborative environment with strong interpersonal skills
Well-structured work practices
Excellent communication skills
Ability to live by "I am safety" expectations
