Statoil Canada Ltd. is seeking a Principal Exploration Geophysicist to work with the Access Exploration Team to provide geophysical proficiency and strong mapping skills in the assessment of frontier acreage exploration opportunities leading to land sale nominations and bids, prospect and farm-in evaluations, and development opportunities.
The successful candidate will report in line through Statoil Exploration International, Northern Hemisphere, Assets and Access North Atlantic team (AAN). The Access team is responsible for regional work and evaluation of new acreage offshore eastern Canada, from the US-Nova Scotia border, the Grand Banks, and along the Labrador Shelf. The position will report to the Exploration Manager Canada Access, and be based in Calgary, AB.
Effectively perform in a team environment with other geophysicists and geologists conducting prospect and regional-scale evaluations of hydrocarbon potential in offshore Eastern Canada.
Responsible for prospect generation by integrating all geophysical and geological data.
Participation in authority-regulated bid rounds, by completing high-quality subsurface evaluations.
Integrate sedimentology, structural geology, and seismic into prospect scale models, based on a strong understanding of basin-scale depositional systems
Provide geological and geophysical input into petroleum systems modeling, and QA of models
Responsible for evaluating farm-in opportunities, and providing subsurface support for other Business Development activities
Ability and experience to monitor seismic acquisition and processing projects
Participation in multi-disciplinary tasks across the Exploration community with an emphasis on replenishment of the portfolio.
Mentorship of less-experienced geoscience staff and interns
Occasional travel is required
You must be a Canadian Citizen or eligible to work in Canada
M.Sc. in Geoscience, with relevant industry experience in geophysics and seismic interpretation required
Be registered with APEGA, or be eligible and willing to qualify as a Professional Geoscientist in Alberta
A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience
Expertise with oil exploration in offshore rift basins, ideally East Coast Canada.
Demonstrated proficiency in regional- and prospect-scale seismic interpretation
Capable of dealing with large and varied digital data sets
A working knowledge of seismic acquisition and special geophysical techniques (depth conversion, VSP, AVO, and seismic inversion)
Familiarity with seismic processing workflows and seismic imaging, and modern interpretation software including Petrel and Landmark.
Ability to effectively contribute within a multi-disciplinary team, and collaborate throughout the Statoil network
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and fluency in English.
