Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineering Geologist to be responsible for providing principal-level involvement in: local/regional business development, staff development, and technical oversight to existing geotechnical and railroad services teams. The candidate will also have support strategic development responsibilities for the local Infrastructure Engineering and Design Services Branch and greater office. Additionally, the selected candidate will maintain utilization targets by managing/executing various aspects of railroad roadbed projects and preparing reports/deliverables on other geotechnical projects for various public and private clients. Key Responsibilities Responsible for the identification of new clients and/or developing additional work with an existing clientHave large role in multi-year business strategy development and implementation for hiring BranchWill serve as a seller-doer with revenue generation responsibility of $1M or more annually (annual $1M target expected to be achieved within two years of hire)Perform analyses for highly complex geologic/engineering geology projects; Demonstrates competency in a combination of areas including field supervision, technical knowledge, and project managementAssumes full management responsibility and accountability for managing very large, technically complex critical tasks or projects; develops project strategy and scope; develops realistic budgets and is accountable for them; provides review of project deliverablesMotivate, trains and mentors subordinate staff assigned to his/her tasks or projects; facilitates teamwork to achieve maximum results. Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the fieldProvide stability, guidance and direction to teams, whether as a leader or participantAdvance/promote an entrepreneurial cultureManages and communicates results, budget and schedule information to the client, project manager and appropriate operations managementMay be required to make periodic, out-of-town site visits for railroad projects May occasionally require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contaminationOther duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications
15+ years of experience is requiredBachelors Degree required; Masters Degree desirableDemonstrated ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clientsDemonstrated ability to solve complex problemsDemonstrated task and project management skillsDemonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects and personnelDemonstrated maturity in judgment, initiative and client relationsMust have excellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to establish effective internal and external working relationships
