Apache is seeking a petrophysicist with a minimum of 5 years of experience to perform reservoir description and characterization studies, and to assist with all aspects of petrophysical operations. Nearly all of the activity for this position will be US-based, with a primary focus on activities in our San Antonio Region. The successful candidate should be willing to relocate to San Antonio, TX.
The successful candidate will support exploration and production projects throughout the Delaware Basin via the integration of multidisciplinary datasets. These datasets include, but are not limited to, open- and cased-hole logs, core data, production log data, and geological and geophysical data (e.g., seismic rock properties). Experience in unconventional play analysis is also required. Additional required skills include the ability to design, manage, and interpret log and core data acquisition programs. A successful candidate will have a working knowledge of production surveillance methods, such as PTA and RTA, familiarity of seismic rock properties workflows, and experience in pressure analysis for hydrodynamic studies including formation tests and fluid sample acquisition. The candidate will participate in multidisciplinary projects and help present defendable business recommendations to senior management.
Education: Minimum of a B.S. in Geology, Geophysics, or Engineering, and relevant experience
Experience: The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years petroleum industry experience as a log analyst or petrophysicist. The candidate should have experience leading technical / project teams, and interacting closely with geoscientists and engineers. The candidate should have experience using Interactive Petrophysics (IP), Geolog, Powerlog or the equivalent (Apache has standardized on IP). The candidate should be familiar with pressure transient testing, fluid characterization modeling, material balance applications, production surveillance techniques, and some economic analysis.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Expert knowledge of conventional and unconventional reservoirs and their analysis
- Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information is essential.
- Current knowledge of wireline and LWD logging services.
- Excellent communication skills - present formally to management and effectively communicate work procedures to relevant personnel.
- Ability to work within an integrated multi-disciple team.
- Excellent project management skills.
- A mature and professional attitude - capable of directing the work of others and being directed as required.
