Petrophysicist/ Rock Physicist

Position Summary:
Conducts borehole based rock physics and modeling by carefully processing and interpreting log data. Responsible for ensuring well log interpretations are performed consistently and reliably to a high standard and in a timely manner. Follows petrophysical analysis, and conducts seismic modeling exercises to test seismic reservoir characterization procedures. Applies geophysical principals to identify and evaluate the value of underground deposits. Aids in the design, planning, and execution of geophysical investigations and projects including data collection, processing, analyzing, and reporting. Mentorship of rock physicists is a primary function. Assist in rock physics research and development associated with either ongoing research consortia or in-house software development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Conduct open hole well log analysis of borehole data
      • Construct a reliable suite of borehole attributes from all available logs and core information from the top to the bottom of well (Geophysical Well Log Analysis (GWLA)
      • Perform rock physics diagnostics and modeling which include; S-wave velocity predictions, and multiple perturbational exercises such as fluid substitution, mineralogy, porosity and thickness modeling
      • Assist in designing, developing and marketing advanced well-log analysis and rock-physics model building software tools
      • Assist in marketing products and services for RSI with particular emphasis on petrophysical analysis and rock physics. Includes preparing and presenting scientific paper and conference attendance.
      • Responsible for delivering training to external clients as needed, mentor rock physicist
      • Provide GWLA/iMOSS software support
      • Other duties as assigned by -TA


      • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum engineering or closely related field
      • 3-5 years of working in reservoir characterization
      • Knowledge of well-log interpretation, editing, and core-analysis
      • Familiar with commercial petrophysical software(s) such as Powerlog.
      • Experience in conventional and unconventional reservoir petrophysical analysis (e.g. shale reservoirs, tight sands, fractured reservoirs)
      • Familiar with principles of shared earth model; and rock physics theory and modeling
      • Knowledgeable in geophysics and/or seismic modeling is considered a plus
      • Evidence of published technical papers
      • Strong project and time management skills; able to effectively manage projects to meet customer and company expectations for both quality and delivery
      • Excellent analytical, problem solving skills and report writing skills
      • Excellent communication skills; able to effectively communicate and present complex ideas and technical information to mixed audiences
      • Strong interpersonal skills, approachable and able to develop good working relationships with colleagues/clients at all levels
      • Commitment to the standards and values of the company and the role
      • High levels of technical and IT competency; able to quickly become proficient in new software to successfully complete and deliver project work on time
      • Eligible to work in the United Kingdom
