This is a permanent & residential position based in the Head Office with occasional offshore visits.
Scope of Work
Apply Company's Health, Safety and Environment Policy and Safety Management System
Ensure the highest technical standards are applied in all petrophysical interpretations or studies
Ensure robust evaluations of HC at wells and reservoir quality (basis for a reliable evaluation of Company reserves), in close relation with related Discipline. This includes revisiting interpretations on previous wells when required.
Ensures cost optimization and that technical deadlines are respected within budgetary constraints.
Guides and provides recommendations for data acquisitions programs for new wells and work overs (including coring and plugging)
Develop positive relationships with suppliers e.g. well logging and core analysis companies, to maintain service quality
Pro-actively seek learning opportunities that allows the job holder to keep abreast of developments in well logging technology
Drive knowledge sharing within his/her perimeter with colleagues across RGS in regards to data acquisition or interpretation techniques.
Consider HSE dimension, in well classification, in studies conducted under OGP responsibility and for recommendations done by the OGP Petrophysical team.
Remain alert on security of data and on the ethic related to the relations with services companies.
Responsibility in Operation Geology and Petrophysics Department
Plans and supervises Petrophysicist team activities
Guarantees the relevance, the reliability and the quality of the petrophysical interpretations and their syntheses
Ensures and validates accurate petrophysical analyses of development, Appraisal and Exploration wells (when required under the guidance of a referent Petrophysicist).
In collaboration with Discipline Manager, assure interpretations have been applied according to Company Standards.
Leads petrophysical contribution to volumetric assessments and the associate uncertainties
Provides operational interpretations of image logs according to Company standards.
Contributes to the selection and control of contracted services
Work with contractors, when required, to ensure that company best practices are followed and technically sound product is delivered.
Ensures data QC is performed prior final delivery by contractors and transfer to Company database
Ensures invoicing is consistent with the data acquisition performed (in close collaboration with Drilling entity for contracts not directly owned by OGP entity (LWD, Coring, ...)
Ensures the upkeep and organization of the Company's log and petrophysical database
Leads and guarantees the design of logging programs and contributes to the design of core analysis program (in collaboration with Operations Geologists, Asset Teams and Geology and Petrophysics Discipline)
Leads specified projects/teams with respect to petrophysical issues, with the aim of achieving project or technical deadlines within budgetary constraints.
Propose optimizations of data acquisition and/or interpretation methodologies in collaboration with discipline.
Lead support to Asset with the opportunity maturation process, including providing full support for well and pattern reviews and closing resultant actions.
Effectively justify technical analysis and recommendations and present these to line management, team, discipline and Project leaders (Assets)
Coaching & Mentoring of less experienced staff
Represent company, when required, in committees and workgroups, presenting technical interpretations and recommendations
Awareness of future petrophysical activities (phase II and III)
Bachelor of Earth or physical Sciences minimum (or equivalent). With typically 15+ years relevant work experience in Petrophysics and Formation Evaluation techniques
Past experience of Petrophysical evaluation work in an operating Oil and Gas company with significant exposure to operations and log acquisition
Working Experience of Carbonate reservoirs preferred
Highly experienced knowledge of Petrophysical software, particularly Techlog, is preferred
In depth knowledge of data acquisition tools (wireline and lwd)
In depth knowledge of core analysis techniques
Expertise in advanced data acquisition (including formation evaluation while drilling) and data interpretation highly valued
Proved capabilities in conducting petrophysical analysis on cores
Experience of working within a multi-disciplined environment with exposure to subsurface oil and gas operations
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work within tight time constraints while delivering high quality technical interpretations.
Good written and spoken English.
