Job Position: PetrophysicistLocation: Houston, TXThe position is being formed within the Integrated Performance Organization (IPO) at Marathon Oil Corporation. This person will report to the Subsurface/Completions Manager and will provide petrophysical support to advance the technical understanding and optimized development of unconventional assets. The role will support Asset teams across the resource plays.The successful candidate will need to have a solid understanding of petrophysical fundamentals and have a desire to expand their technical knowledge beyond their discipline through active participation in a cross functional team. The individual selected will be tasked with working with high level engineers and geoscientists within IPO to become a foundational team member by helping to create innovative solutions. A strong emphasis on collaboration, influence and thought leadership is a requirement of this position.Responsibilities:Provide multi-well petrophysical evaluations for geomodel building in support of multi-discipline projectsRecommend and assist in the planning of data collection programs (core and log analysis)Provide operational petrophysical support as needed during critical open-hole logging operationsProvide quality control and analysis of core and log dataApply physical models to derive reservoir properties from well log responsesDrive the integration of rock property data and interpretations into existing and new modelsAssess and predict from core and multi-log analysis the rock and fluid properties along with sensitivities and uncertainties of those propertiesMake recommendations of landing zone for optimized lateral well placementWork closely with geoscientists and engineers to ensure a full utilization of drilling, wellbore, and lab measurements to identify reservoir propertiesLiaise with other petrophysicists to provide best practices and standardization of the log interpretation processesProvide mentoring to less experienced petrophysicists, geoscientists, and engineersPresent petrophysical reports and interpretations to Marathon Oil management and representatives of other companies*Requirements:Degree: Masters degree in in geoscience, engineering or physics required10+ years of petrophysical experience with > 5 years of experience in unconventionalsRequired prior experience with the application of physical models to calculate reservoir propertiesThorough understanding of core analysis, LWD, MWD and wireline well logging operations and technologies requiredGeneral understanding of reservoir engineering principles, completion principles, drilling principles and fundamental rock physics, geologic processes, and geophysical tools is importantPreferred experience with geomechanics interpretation, drilling dynamics, mudlogs, and production loggingComputer Proficiencies: Required extensive experience with petrophysical software package (GEOLOG preferred). Intermediate PC skills are required in Microsoft desktop suites.
