at ConocoPhillips
Location Houston, United States
Date Posted January 17, 2019
Category Petrophysicist
Job Type Permanent

Description

ConocoPhillips is looking for an experienced and motivated petrophysicist to work on international and domestic plays across the E&P; lifecycle. Work will include analysis and characterization of both conventional and very low permeability unconventional resource plays (shales, mudstones, siltstones) and new entry opportunities for shale and tight gas plays. Of interest is an individual who has experience integrating log, core, and seismic in an exploration and production setting.

Responsibilities may include:
Provides deterministic and probabilistic petrophysical interpretations.
Works domestic and international plays (both conventional and unconventional reservoirs), with responsibilities that focus on new entry and existing opportunities for carbonate, clastic and unconventional oil plays.
Produces comprehensive interpretations for porosity and fluid content in addition to other formation properties such as lithology, clay content, mineralogy, permeability, fluid contacts, and reservoir pressure regimes; utilizing logs and modeling to characterize the formation, based upon drilling-mud invasion processes.
Planning fit-for-purpose formation evaluation programs post well analyses and specific tool parameters for optimized petrophysical data acquisition.
Contributes to the assessment of exploration project volumetrics.
Prepares and communicates results to groups both internal and external, at a technical and business level.
Participates on multidisciplinary teams and assists team members in developing and understanding integrated petrophysical, geological, and geophysical reservoir flow models.
Drives the COP petrophysical community toward improved workflows and discipline best practices.
Mentors Early Career and other staff.
Builds a close working relationship with other COP Petrophysicists.
Qualifications

Basic/Required:
Bachelor's degree in Petrophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Physics or other scientific or petroleum-related discipline
7+ years of experience in logging technology, including log acquisition, processing, and interpretation
7+ years of experience with Techlog, Interactive Petrophysics, or equivalent petrophysics software
Advanced level of proficiency with core analyses and core-log integration for reservoir properties
Advanced integration skills with other subsurface disciplines
Ability to lead or work within a technical team
Preferred:
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in Petrophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Physics or other scientific or petroleum-related discipline
10+ years of experience in the job in petrophysics and well operations as applied in an exploration and production setting; integrating log, core, well test and seismic data for reservoir properties; working with petrophysical applications including logging technology, log acquisition, processing and interpretation.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Deterministic and probabilistic petrophysical analyses to establish lithology, porosity, permeability and saturation models and their appropriate application to subsurface data
Full-waveform sonic experience – processing and interpretation for rock physics analyses
NMR analysis and modelling; rock typing; sonic waveforms analysis and processing
Experience completing evaluations that have short deadlines and incomplete data
Performing interpretation and analysis using Techlog petrophysics software or similar software; developing static and dynamic models and running simulations.
Forward and inversion modeling applied to formation evaluation
Recent experience with evaluation of unconventional (tight gas, shale gas) reservoirs
Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical.
