Argo Surety is actively seeking a creative and innovative petroleum engineer to join our growing commercial surety team. This is an exciting, challenging, and unique opportunity for a staff-level petroleum engineer in our Houston, TX office.

As a petroleum engineer working in Commercial Surety, you will report to the Oil & Gas Practice Leader, and support asset-based underwriting of plugging and abandonment (P&A) and general oilfield site restoration performance bonds. In this key role you will perform engineering due-diligence studies to assist underwriters with assessing and measuring risk for oil & gas commercial surety bonding opportunities. You will closely work and collaborate with a team of commercial surety underwriters and regularly interact with oil & gas clients and external agents/brokers.
Review all available engineering, geoscience, and field data to help define risk and strategy for new bonding opportunities and existing commercial surety accounts.
Perform engineering due-diligence studies to identify potential bonding issues and critical missing technical data necessary for basic reserves and economic evaluation.
Gain a thorough understanding of key asset retirement obligations (ARO) and associated costs to help identify and define probable maximum loss on any given surety bond.
Prepare presentations and reports based on engineering review and interpretation to support conclusions and underwriting recommendations.
Regularly contribute oil and gas industry knowledge during team discussions with underwriters.
Remain current on new industry trends, developments, technology, and key regulations.

Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering with 7 – 10 years of upstream oil and gas experience.
Strong preference for candidates with reservoir engineering experience and a sound understanding of basic field operations including plugging and abandonment. Offshore decommissioning knowledge is a plus.
Ability to analyze technical data (production, reserves, maps, logs) from both public and private sources.
Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as attention to detail.
Comfortable presenting to small groups and interacting with clients and critical business associates in social settings.
E&P Acquisition and Divestiture (A&D) experience is a plus
Self-motivated and able to quickly react to changing priorities and tight deadlines.
