Job Overview:

Citi’s Investment Bank is seeking a Petroleum Engineer to join their Energy A&D group in Houston, Texas. A Petroleum Engineer is responsible for the technical evaluation of client oil & gas assets, assisting with the coordination of mandate execution, and the development of new business activities.

The Petroleum Engineer’s execution duties are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for technical evaluation of client oil & gas assets, including: reserve evaluation, production data analysis for identifying key performance drivers and economic analysis
  • Generate engineering presentation materials for the pre-marketing documents and data room presentation using data supported by client or public data
  • Generate the technical subsurface/engineering portions of the pitch books for business development meetings
  • Assist in (or lead) coordination of the execution of mandates
  • Attend (or lead) internal and external project meetings as required
  • The preparation of data rooms based on data supplied by client
  • Marketing of oil and gas assets to potential buyers including:
    • Presenting engineering analyses in the data rooms to large groups through strong written and oral communication skills
    • Following up on Q&A from buyers
  • Commercially oriented and understand the fundamentals of cash flow, economics and rate of return, as well as the ability to assess technical risk in economic valuations
  • Assist with miscellaneous technical project related duties as required

Additional Business Development duties are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with development of new business activities
  • Prepare technical portions of pitch books
  • Attend pitch meetings


  • 5 - 15 years of prior related petroleum engineering experience with active exploration and production company, energy investment banking or A&D experience
  • Provide technical expertise on emerging plays within the oil and gas industry, additional experience in operations is a plus
  • High level of technical oil and gas engineering understanding and application
  • Ability to identify upside and risk for oil and gas assets
  • High level of discretion dealing with confidential matters
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to set priorities
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime as required
  • Bachelor's degree required; MS or MBA is a plus
  • Computer skills: Microsoft office, economics software such as Aries and PHDWin, Excel, Access. Experience in Spotfire and other analytical software is a plus
