Apache is seeking a petrographer with a minimum of 10-15 years of experience to perform in-depth petrographic analyses of various resource and unconventional play rock facies. Experience in core description, thin-section petrography and digital image analysis as well as integration of those results into a multi-disciplinary reservoir assessment is required.
In addition to the performing traditional petrographic analyses, as noted above, the successful candidate will be instrumental in designing and executing petrographic workflows that include the latest mineral identification technologies to support the description of the target reservoirs. All of the activity for this position will be US-based and the successful candidate should be willing to relocate to San Antonio.
The successful candidate will support exploration and development projects throughout North America via the integration of petrographic analyses into multi-disciplinary models. Required skills include:
Working within multi-disciplinary project teams to provide petrographic analyses.
Microscopic and digital image examination of target formations in thin section, description and analysis of mineralogy, texture, diagenetic cements, etc.
Establish sample collection programs to support the petrographic analyses.
Apply petrographic findings to depositional models to support the reservoir characterization process.
Assist the petrophysicist in calibrating rock attributes to petrophysical properties and electro-facies.
Mentor co-workers in petrographical principles to support an integrated geological modeling approach.
Education: Minimum of a B.S. in Geoscience or equivalent (M.S. preferred)
Experience: The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10-15 years petroleum industry experience as a geologist and/or petrographer. The candidate should have experience multi-disciplinary teams, and interacting closely with geoscientists and engineers.

Expert knowledge of conventional and unconventional reservoirs and their analysis
Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information essential.
Excellent communication skills - present formally to management and effectively communicate work procedures to relevant personnel.
Ability to work within an integrated multi-disciple team.
Excellent project management skills.
A mature and professional attitude - capable of directing the work of others and being directed as required.
