Job description You will work in a multidisciplinary team to enhance and optimize the surveillance capabilities for the Cold Lake field.
Examples of specific job responsibilities:
Lead various studies in support of Imperial’s monitoring of in-situ heavy oil production, as part of the Passive Seismic team
Collaborate with Operations, Reservoir Engineering, Subsurface Engineering and other teams
Analyze and provide solutions for automatic detection and classification of events reflected in the micro-seismic data
Develop real-time prediction capability for operations monitoring, leveraging micro-seismic and other production surveillance data
Interacting effectively with research affiliates at Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil
Communicate results and recommendations to technical team and management
Documenting results in a format that facilitates protection of any intellectual property that may arise
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geoscience/Seismology, or a related Engineering discipline
Excellent programming skills – must have prior experience with high-level programming languages such as MATLAB or Python
Advanced skills in signal processing, time-series analysis and data analytics
Familiar with statistical and Machine Learning methodologies for classification, regression and clustering
Understands the assumptions and pros/cons of different Machine Learning techniques
Prior experience with toolboxes for Machine Learning in MATLAB/Python
Experience in seismic data processing and/or seismology is highly desirable
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to rapidly prototype and evaluate new research ideas
Proven ability to innovate and work independently
Outstanding academic performance and demonstrated research skills through an innovative Ph.D. research thesis
Eligible for and willing to apply for NSERC Industrial Fellowship and/or Alberta Ingenuity Research Fellowship
