The Operations Geologist / Well Planner role is located in The Woodlands, Texas, working with the Delaware Basin Midstream Water team. The Operations Geologist / Well Planner will provide technical guidance, analysis, interpretation, and documentation of all aspects of SWD operations to help achieve drilling and evaluation goals, in a cost-effective manner. Plans and executes all required SWD wells, in coordination with the Infrastructure Planning group. Applies geological and other technical knowledge and experience to ensure efficient operations and address operational challenges and geotechnical concerns in a timely manner. Serves as a geo-technical advisor on well OPS and coring operations, service coordinator, and regional point of contact for service providers, asset teams, technology, and drilling groups to ensure interdisciplinary communication to improve reservoir characterization and SWD efforts. Must be a high-energy self-starter.
Early to mid-level candidate desired with minimum 2 years prior experience overseeing operations (OPS) geology and at least one year of well planning.Prior experience with SWD is a plus
Good general knowledge of conventional reservoirs is preferred.
Experience utilizing Petra Geoscience Interpretation Software is required.Experience with DecisionSpace is a plus
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
Experience with Pason DataHub and Baker-Hughes Beacon/WellLink is a plus
Experience with ANORM is a plus
Excellent written and oral interpersonal communications skills
Utilize log data to generate and maintain operational maps (structure, Isochore, etc…) and cross-sections used to generate prognosed tops and preliminarily identify geo-hazards, anticipate formation tops, select casing points, and determine required TD
Integration of surface land, infrastructure, geohazards and seismicity conditions to develop viable SWD drilling locations to service internal and external SWD customers
ANORM uploads related to the location and geology of the SWD, and management and expediting of approvals
Generates staking requests, in conjunction with Surface Land and QC’s resulting plats, modifying locations as needed
Presentation of proposed locations to the asset at IDT meetings
Scheduling of SWD drilling with the asset and Drilling department and logging and coring services with vendors
Generate Drilling and GAU Water Permit applications, Shallow Water Isolation letter and prognosed tops, in conjunction with the Regulatory group
In conjunction with Project Geologist, select data well locations.Execute logging and coring projects and all follow-up lab work
Generation and finalization of Geological Prognoses for SWD’s
Provide appropriate offset well logs to Regulatory for submission with applications
Hold pre-spud meetings to familiarize project team and vendors with geo-hazards, casing points, logging program, coring points and other critical information
Coordinate and manage all sub-groups critical to well operations, including Petrophysics, Drilling, Regulatory and Land relating to LWD, wireline logging, coring or any other non-standard formation evaluation-based services. Occasional trips to the wellsite may be required to oversee non-standard operations
24/7 operations coverage – remotely monitors rig move, rig-up and well progress and informs SWD team at key points during operations and when issues occur. Evaluates available data to provide timely guidance to the SWD and drilling team (DE and Company Man) to insure optimal well execution
Ensure timely transfer of log data, creation, dissemination, and archiving of core descriptions and other reports.Responsible for following progress of core analysis and generation of summary reports
Quality control of all MWD, LWD and wireline data to ensure data validity and appropriate archiving in team databases
Any additional operational or well planning tasks that require geological input or guidance
Will have the opportunity to be involved with competitor SWD evaluations and participate in negotiations
Will have the opportunity to be involved with reservoir characterization and regional geology
B.A. or B.S. Degree in geoscience, related area of study or 5 years of working experience in related field.
This position is not eligible for relocation.
Travel is not usually required.
This position is eligible for the 5/40 or 9/80 work schedule.
