About the role
Leads the planning, executing, monitoring and communicating formation evaluation and sample acquisition aspects of well delivery.
Responsible for ensuring the quality of the team members’ reporting and ensuring the robust integration of these deliverables for the subsurface teams.
Assists the Geological Operations Principal II in defining and maintaining best practice standards and procedures for optimized and cost-effective data acquisition.
Assists the Geological Operations Principal II and Geological Operations Manager in defining roles and responsibilities of Operations Geologists and Well Site Geologists.
Assists the Geological Operations Principal II to ensure that external geologic service providers have appropriate agreements in place to provide services to BHP.
Together with the Principal II, ensures that estimated budgets are defined for all operations, and are captured in the well or post well AFE.
Works with both Regulatory specialists and Technical Data & Records Management to ensure that regulatory requirements are identified and understood, and that delivery of the right data & information is complete and on time.
Investigates new technologies and techniques and summarizes findings for the benefit of the Subsurface and Well & Seismic Delivery teams.
Ensures alignment on well objectives with WPT lead
Coordinates with subsurface teams and well project team leaders on well planning, data acquisition and handling, sample logistics, laboratory analysis and processing, data dissemination and long-term storage.
Mentors and peer reviews early career geological operations team members’ workflows
Detailed understanding of BHP Geological Operations standards and procedures
Works with the WPT lead to assist them in the budgeting for the post-well analysis AFE.
Technically review Geological Operations well plan and monitor WPT progress.
Conduct operational after-action reviews.
Ensure lessons learned are entered in the database, and where appropriate ensure relevant Standards and Procedures are updated to mitigate reoccurrence.
Manages Wireline, Mudlogging, LWD, and related geologic service contracts.
Participates in continuous improvement
Ensure Partner and Government Data Submission Requirements are met
Understands fundamental concepts of geoscience including reservoir interpretation and characterization, as well as volume, risk, and value assessments.
Understands the Geoscience planning requirements of the Well Delivery Process.
Understands how the formation evaluation program enables the thorough evaluation of the subsurface.
Works with the Geological Operations Principal II to design and conduct new country geological service provider audits
Technically assures geological operations manual for each well
Provides operations support as required during downhole sampling.
Conducts periodic geological service provider audits to ensure standards and procedures remain satisfactory.
Reviews geological operations Standards and Procedures bi-annually for continued applicability.
Works with Specialist III and vendor representatives to ensure tools are available and prepared in a timely manner.
About You
MSc (Hons) Geoscience
Strong personal organizational and leadership skills
Ability to commit to and deliver results on time
Ability to build consensus and alignment between business functions
High level technical communication skills, both oral and written
Cultural sensitivity to a global working environment with demonstrated aptitude for inclusion and diversity
Proven project management skills
Advanced problem solving and conflict resolution skills
This role will be required to travel offshore occasionally
Experience with drilling & completions operations, geoscience planning and operations, regulatory requirements, and joint venture or joint operating agreements.
Multi-basin and Deepwater experience in formation evaluation data and physical sample acquisition
Exposure to the different services and tools available from the primary service companies
