Description

The ConocoPhillips Lower 48 Operations Geology team is looking for an Operations Geologist to plan and execute a portion of the drilling and development program. This dynamic horizontal development program currently includes the Eagle Ford, Bakken, Niobrara, and Permian assets, and the L48 Ops Geology team is actively planning and executing wells for 13 rigs across those assets.

A successful candidate may initially support the Eagle Ford program but will have the opportunity to work with all L48 assets as part of this integrated team. The individual selected will provide significant value to the asset via development of company operated acreage through collaboration, communication, and technical integration.

The Operations Geology role in Lower 48 includes 24/7 geosteering activities for up to three rigs (usually 1-2). However, an equally critical focus of the role requires detailed planning of wellbores and the integration of all geologic, geophysical, production, and drilling data to meet bigger picture project goals.

The Geologist or Geophysicist will merge geologic objectives with engineering reality and incorporate uncertainties into the plan. They will work to mitigate risks & hazards, and to improve long-term production.
We are seeking Geologists with a history of both detailed well planning and geosteering who are wishing to support the Operations Geology role as a long-term career.

Responsibilities may include:
Preparing well plans, providing geologic operations support during drilling, and conducting after action reviews with the other members of the team
Understanding, following, and inspiring others to follow all safety procedures both in the office and field
Working and collaborating with an extended multidisciplinary team to establish and achieve team goals
Key relationships include Geologists and Reservoir Engineers in the Implementation and Reservoir Characterization teams; Drilling and Completion group, crews on the rig site, and all service companies
Planning wells with the Asset (Implementation) Geologists, Geophysicists, RE's, and DE's to drill safe wells as cost and time-efficiently as possible to deliver wellbores that are 100% completable and meet all wellbore goals
Executing data acquisition plans and managing data and samples analysis
Selecting and collaborating with vendors and coordinating their work
Providing 24/7 geological support during drilling operations on one or more rigs (up to 3)
Maintaining excellent communication among team members to ensure safe and cost-effective decisions are made during drilling
Integrating, evaluating, and interpreting geologic and drilling data in real-time as it flows from the rig to provide stratigraphic position assurance during landing and the lateral section of wells
Capturing and sharing lessons learned and leading practices
Demonstrating accountability for delivering results by achieving goals while complying with work policies and procedures
Collaboration with other Lower 48 Ops Geologists to share knowledge and refresh leading practices across the company
