Essential Job Duties
An operations geologist will be responsible for providing key geologic support to implement our active drilling program. The candidate will integrate with engineering, regulatory, operations, and geologic staff to plan and implement successful horizontal well drilling. The candidate will also work with the current asset geologists, company petrophysicist, and geophysicist to optimally target the reservoirs developed to return high value to Diamondback. The candidate must be willing to field questions and solve issues at all times of the day and night. This position does not require constant surveillance overnight, but issues that arise at location need to be addressed from time to time and our company must trust that the candidate will be responsive to those situations.
Provide technical support and quality oversight for wellsite geology including, but not limited to; mudlogging, LWD/MWD, wireline logging, coring, and directional drilling.
Geosteer horizontal wells and oversee contract geosteering consultants.
Work with Geophysicist using 3D seismic to plan and steer horizontal wells.
Work with asset geologists to create staking packages and geologic prognoses for horizontal wells.
Maintain a daily reporting system for well operations and data gathering.
Maintain open and free communication with project geologists and drilling engineers during operations.
Work effectively within collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
Work with regulatory personnel on Railroad Commission regulations regarding well permits, spacing applications, etc.
Aid in planning horizontal well pad construction.
B.S. degree in geology required
Preferred minimum of 2 years experience working drilling operations with an active E&P company or service organization but will consider new to industry graduates.
Working knowledge of horizontal drilling, LWD/MWD, and wireline logging technologies and applications.
Permian Basin experience preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Functional knowledge of Petra, Kingdom, and Boresight.
