In this assignment, the Operations Geologist\Geological Operations Engineer will assist active horizontal drilling operations by providing accurate geosteering models with the primary goal of keeping the wellbore within a defined target window. This position will work directly with planning geologists, drilling engineers, and Company man. Job Duties: Provide geosteering models for actively drilling horizontal wells with the goal of keeping the wellbore within a defined target window and within the fastest drilling lithology. Role requires real-time integration of LWD gamma ray, seismic, and mudlogging data to provide timely directional guidance (i.e., changes in the wellbores future trajectory) to the rig site personnel.
Make geologic well log correlations, and manipulate seismic data to determine the stratigraphic position of the wellbore. Work a two weeks on and one week off rotational schedule, and be the primary point of contact for Planning Geologist and the Planning and Execution Drilling Engineer, in addition to the rig site personnel. Develop a basic knowledge of geologic and geophysical processes, in addition to the drilling and field operations, as they relate to oil & gas development. Job responsibilities will require the use of various software packages (SMT, SES, Excel, etc.).
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications: MS in either Geology or Geophysics BS Petroleum Engineering (3-5 years’ experience) Must demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to work as a team member. Must have good verbal and written communication skills, be well organized, have good people skills, and demonstrate good computer skills. Solid interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
