Operations Engineer - Facilities/Production

Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Facilities/Production Operations Engineer. This position is responsible for all aspects of engineering work and requires the individual to be well rounded and experienced in the various areas of facilities and production operations. The individual who is selected will play a key role troubleshooting existing and new facility equipment problems, providing technical engineering evaluations, progressing standardization of equipment while continually working towards facility design improvements to enhance safety and reliability, and working collaboratively with other teams in the US Business Unit (USBU). The ideal candidate will also have experience with artificial lift methods and designs over the life cycle of the well. Gas Lift experience is desirable as well as ESP, Plunger Lift and Rod Pumping systems.
The position will require interfacing with other Vermilion employees, contractors, and vendors to optimize production in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Although based in Denver, the successful candidate will be expected to travel a minimum of 20% of his or her time to the field (Newcastle, WY). This position will report directly to the Operations Manager in the USBU.
Key Responsibilities
Actively participate in and promote Vermilion HSE initiatives
The candidate will be engaged in managing the development, planning and execution of the facility and production budgets.
Oversee all engineering/technical support for the engineering design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of new and existing facilities, to include commissioning and post start-up support to production operations.
Responsible for supervision of the Facilities field consultant and any associated personnel. Provide mentoring and coaching for direct reports and ensure individual commitments are established for all staff members.
Collaborate effectively with field leadership to identify facility safety, reliability, and cost savings improvements.
Ensure proper documentation of as-built P&IDs;, plot plans, and other required drawings.
Manage capital project budget preparation and review, facilitate periodic equipment reviews, and engage in monthly project reviews.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with Construction, Drilling, Completions, Production Operations, Development and service providers to ensure they are delivering on stated goals, and partner with external stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals to complete project plans.
Support implementation of Management of Change and Asset Integrity Management, as well as the other HSE Management System elements.
Participating in due diligence activity in support of potential business acquisitions. Providing review and evaluation of the facilities associated with property acquisitions.
Monitor production and flowback trends to proactively initiate changes to optimize well productivity
Oversee and optimize chemical programs for assigned wells

First Year Deliverables
Full technical and operational understanding of all current and future facilities, surface and subsurface production equipment, well performance, artificial lift efficiencies, evaluatation impact of chemical injection/batch treatments,
Optimize single well, multi well and central delivery pad (CDP) facility based on cost, development plan goals and HSE risk matrix. Present facility program options for 2019 and beyond.
Become familiar with external stakeholders, including facility providers and operators in the area to collaborate and share lessons learned.
Implement cost tracking methodology to keep operations, accounting and development up to date on all spend, in a timely and accurate manner. Recommend software packages (i.e. SiteView) if economically justified.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and plans along with federal, state and local regulations

Essential Experience & Skills
7+ years of relevant facilities and production engineering experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Aries, WellView, SiteView, PRAMS and SROD or equivalent engineering software programs
Strong Production Engineering skillset with solid understanding of artificial lift systems.
Working knowledge of well drilling, completion, and work over processes and techniques
Able to prepare well recompletion, work over, and maintenance procedures.
Efficient and precise communication (written and oral) as the position requires interaction with team members, service companies and regulatory agencies
Familiar with well and reservoir surveillance; able to recognize performance deficiencies and develop solutions to mitigate
Strong interpersonal, leadership and critical analysis skills
Strong team player with the ability to build relationships and work constructively with others to achieve business goals

Education & Work Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
6+ years of professional oil and gas facility and production experience
