About the role
BHP's sales and procurement activities are undertaken through a centralized Commercial organization with a network of offices across the world. Within BHP’s Commercial, the Market Analysis & Economics (MAE) team provides forecasting, analysis and research services to the wider group. The purpose of the team is to guide value-enhancing commercial decisions through rigorous, independent and innovative research, analysis and forecasts of macroeconomic and market developments.
MAE Procurement Analysis team is looking for a Market Analyst / Cost Engineer whose primary focus will be on price and cost forecasting for Petroleum upstream domain; model specification and estimation; analysis of oil & gas services industry, signpost monitoring and general client assistance. The candidate will have a demonstrable track record in quantitative analysis and excellent writing / presentation skills.
Develop and conduct deep dive analysis into cost escalations across Oil & Gas industryBuild, develop and maintain bottom-up and top-down forecasting models and cost databases.Identify and monitor key signposts / cost trends / pre-feasibility and feasibility studies in the mining industry.Prepare, maintain and communicate core forecasting assumptions to support decisions on capital allocations, asset valuations, procurement activities and strategy formulation.Contribute to MAE publications and deliver insightful market research for clients.Coordinate information flow between various teams, and specifically between Procurement teams, MAE, PS&D; and Project Service/ PCoE teams.Develop and coordinate effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.Contribute to BHP’s thought leadership endeavors.Engage constructively with key internal stakeholders, including commercial, strategic and executive functions (main stakeholders: Procurement, Project Services, Finance, and Group IR teams)Demonstrate and instill an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity, consistent with BHP’s charter values.
The ideal candidate will poses;
A minimum of 4 years of experience, strong academic qualifications and a demonstrable track record in analysis and forecasting.Understanding of cost drivers for Oil & Gas projects and operations and ability to convert engineering data into meaningful cost drivers.Experience in economics, knowledge of Petroleum industry, and experience with working on pre-Feasibility / Feasibility studies in Oil & Gas would be an advantage.Ability to operate independently and to work in a geographically dispersed or virtual team, with 1-up manager located in Singapore, so there will be some time-zone management challengesAbility to manage multiple stakeholders across different locations (Australia, Singapore, the US)Quantitative and qualitative research skills.Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to work under tight deadlines.Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Eviews software would be a plus but not compulsoryFluent English, both verbal and written
