Reporting to the Director, Resource Management, the Manager,
Reservoir Engineering will be in charge of
all subsurface engineering aspects in all of the established PetroChina
Canada’s (PCC) core asset areas. They will also be involved in evaluating and
developing appraisals in new areas and supporting the current portfolio.

This position is based in the PCC
Calgary Head Office.


Provide technical leadership and
oversight, sets standards, and develops personnel within reservoir across

Ensure team works closely with
geoscience, production and operations to proactively manage and optimize MRCP SAGD
prodcution performance

Ensure proper level of reservoir
engineering support provided to all the PCC assets as required including
unconventional shale/tight gas properties

Responsible for overall production
outlooks and reserve reports.

Review and suggest use of new technology
or techniques to optimize returns /reduce costs.

Budgeting work plan for the disciplinary
activities and closely work with other teams

Laise with affiliates to ensure
efficient communications and support being provided

Collabirate and support initial evaluations and creates initial field
development plan for each asset.

Ensure team works closely with G&G;
in initial subsurface evaluation, locations for appraisal wells, data gathering
(e.g. cores, gas sampling, etc.).

Maintain/update overall field
development plan as it pertains to recovery methods and production (note moved
from asset as it is longer term).

Support and review development plans and coordinate with other
functions to provide drill schedule input to Operations group.

Ensure to provide reservoir surveillance
of properties and make recommendations for optimizing production rates and

Liaise with other disciplines to asses
data, attend data rooms to perform property evaluations.

Responsible for determination of
staffing levels and staff selection for the Reservoir Engineering roles
reporting to the Asset Teams.

Work directly with the Techical Services
leadership team on the annual business plan exercise and periodic updates.

Coordinate and review annual reserve
estimates and defend at audit.

Ensure support provided to perform
reserves assessments outside of core asset areas and prepare corporate
quarterly reports.

Portfolio prioritization, evaluation and
documentation of appraisal plans outside of core asset areas.

Leverage strengths of the current team
members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities, develop and implement training
programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational

Ensure the reservoir engineering
practice within PCC follow the rules and ethics set by Professional
Associations and PCC standards

Establish, monitor and review staff
performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives,
establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer
salary adjustments.

Mentor and develop staff using a
supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives;
establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.

Provide leadership in strengthening
internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization;
create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Provide direction and support to maintain a high
performing culture in the function.


Undergraduate degree in engineering

Professional Engineering Designation
with APEGA

15+ years of oil and gas industry
experience with 5+ years on SAGD or other thermal processes

Shale/tight gas reservoir experience
is an asset.

Extensive technical experience in
reservoir engineering practices working with unconventional/resource plays

Strong evaluation skills in value
determination of oil and gas properties

Advanced Analytical experience using
MS Excel and MS Access

Exceptional understanding of
classical reservoir engineering techniques, well forecasting methodology,
reservoir studies, and economic analysis

Knowledge of the shale prospect and
play risking methodology required

Technical expert with significant
industry experience in SAGD recovery process

Exposure to a variety or
geographical locations, assets types and depletion and development scenarios

Ability to inspire trust in
difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters
that affect them

Ability to lead and
operate within an environment where change happens frequently
