About the role

QGC Phase II is the next significant stage in the development of QGC resources post first LNG.  Phase II consists of a mixture of greenfield and brownfield unconventional gas developments.  The successful delivery of Phase II will enable QGC to meet its production target into the mid-2020s. 

The Developments team is responsible for advancing these scopes of work through the Assess, Select Define stages under the BG Way.  In addition, there are a number of projects currently sitting in the Exploration portfolio which, if successful, will need to be progressed through Assess, Select and Define stages and which offer a range of different technical and economic challenges.  The successful delivery of all these projects requires clarity of thought and a different approach to a conventional multi-stage development.

This position resides within the Development Planning Team.  The incumbent will provide input to the Field Development Plan (FDP) as well as to the Assess, Select and Define Stage Reports and the Venture Strategy Document.  Specifically, they will support the generation of the production forecast for QCLNG and quantify the uncertainty range, contribute to the content and publication of the Surat FDP, the generation of QGC’s Reserves position and support Business Developments on new ventures.

Key accountabilities

Position Specific

• Apply reservoir engineering expertise and professional judgment in leading assigned projects and presenting completed analysis and recommendations at peer reviews, peer assists and functional reviews as part of the BG Group value assurance framework and in satisfying The BG Way requirements and associated Stage Deliverables

• Provide leadership in sub-surface development planning. Ensure all reservoir uncertainties are identified and incorporated into forward appraisal and development plans

• Run and manipulate Enersight forecasting tool

• In collaboration with Principal Reservoir Engineer

• Delivers reservoir engineering elements of the QCLNG  field development plan and JV work programmes 

• Integrate results,  improve reservoir description and understand well performance

• Develops new and improves existing subsurface workflows 

• Ensure all own evaluations are documented and related data are handled in accordance with BG’s Data Management Standards

• Adhere to all BG Subsurface Policies and Standards

• Develop close working relationship with QGC subsurface team

People Management

• The incumbent may coach/mentor less experienced Reservoir Engineers 

• The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes

Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE)

• Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times.  In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all employees are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviours

• All QGC employees must adhere to the Business Principles at all times under Conduct, Our People, Society and HSSE and to participate in relevant training

What we are looking for

Experience Needed

• Sub-surface mastery (reservoir engineering) including: reserve assessments, development planning and business planning in a major E&P environment

• High degree of reservoir modelling and simulation skills and experience

• Experience dealing with complex field planning issues and placing them in an overall business context for supporting strategic business decisions

• Sound understanding of evolving development plans which facilitate efficient project delivery in terms of risk management, cost and schedule.

• Previous experience in CSG development would be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in petroleum engineering with relevant experience

• Outstanding interpersonal skills 

• Team player with a collaborative approach to working with peers and development of a team culture

• A strong ‘delivery ethic’ is essential 

• Good working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint

• Good presentation skills and clear and convincing report writing ability

• Strong communicator, able to convey key business objectives and present them clearly to all stakeholders

• Excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritise competing daily issues

• Ability to work with changing priorities across a broad set of goals and objectives

• Strength in planning and execution

• Sees and makes connections / interdependencies between aspects of business activity
