Plan, coordinate and manage subsurface activities with primary focus on development drilling within the Surveillance and

Well Operations Division for prudent development and redevelopment of 17 Arab, Mid Jurassic reservoirs and development

of Khuff reservoir in QP’s offshore Bul Hanine and Maydan Mahzam fields (300 wells). These activities aim at maximizing

the economic recovery of the currently developed reserves and the discovered undeveloped reserves via sound

engineering practices, optimum resource management and fit-for-purpose technology application.

1.Division staffing and Supervision: Manage, supervise, authorize, and approve the activities of the Subsurface Operations.

Ensure that the section is well resourced with high caliber staff (geologists, Petrophysicists) and ensure the section applies

industry best practices and produce high quality technical work.

2.Implementing Field Development Plan: Set, coordinate and supervise execution of petroleum sub-surface operation for

infill development and appraisal wells and workover/rigless projects according to business development plans for BH & MM

fields to meet QP corporate goals and objectives.

3.Drilling Projects: Lead QA/QC integrated geosciences and petrophysics economics analysis and recommendation used

for developing well prognoses (comprehensive drilling and completion plan/program for each well). Responsible for

updating drilling sequence on a quarterly basis in collaboration with study development and drilling teams for infill, appraisal

and workover wells.

4.Drilling Operations: Ensure continuous (24x7) geosciences and reservoir target monitoring of drilling operations (including

near real-time well trajectory monitoring/adjustment via geo-steering, mud logging and data acquisition) and related

decision making to accomplish well objectives.

5.Workover Operation: Collaborate with Operation and Surveillance sections for developing workover proposals in

Geo/Reservoir Eng/Petrophysical aspects.

6.Logging: Supervise the planning, budgeting and implementation of rig and rigless (collaboration with Petroleum and

Reservoir Engineers) logging campaign including log interpretation to effectively manage the reservoirs.

7.Rigless operation: Provide support to Petroleum Engineers for subsurface rigless operation proposals for new wells to

activate and optimize production/injection.

8.End of Well Reports and lessons learnt: Accountable for final geological well reports and coordinator for end of well

reports for newly drilled wells and sidetracks including lessons learnt that can be applied for future wells and projects.

9.Contract Management: Supervise the development of scope of work, exercise technical and financial service quality

controls, endorse invoices and ensure contractual compliance for subsurface contracts for directional drilling, MWD, LWD,

wireline and mud logging services.

10.Technology Trials/Applications: Identify the need/opportunity/suitability and steward trials and applications of subsurface

technologies and related tools/software applications.

Experience & Skills

Minimum of 16 years work experience in the upstream Oil & Gas exploration, development and production businesses.

This must include a minimum of 10 years direct technical/operational experience in subsurface field development and 3-5

years experience of team supervision.

Broad technical experience is required in the fundamental areas of Geosciences, Petroleum / Reservoir Engineering and

Petrophysics for field development.

Good commercial skills are required due to the high level of interaction with contractors and consultants, and the

accountability for initiating and administering contracts for these services.

The position requires strong leadership, planning, organizational and communication skills.


A BSc degree in Engineering/Geosciences is the minimum technical requirement for this position.

A MSc in Engineering/Geosciences is desirable.
