Head of Geoscience and Resource Engineering Resources and Reserves Assurance

In this position you will lead the Assurance team within the Geoscience and Resource Engineering Centre of Excellence (CoE). The CoE provides technical guidance and assurance to BHP Group, specifically in the areas of geoscience, resource and reserve assessment, directional, planning and optimisation, extraction, hydrology, geotechnical, tailings and closure activities. You will drive the delivery of first and second line of defence assurance including public reporting of exploration results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves, take full ownership of Geoscience and Resource Engineering Standards, and support Assets in the areas of geological modelling, resource and reserve estimation Planning, Mineral Inventory Analysis and Tenement Management.

Other Responsibilities include,

Maintaining and communicating to CoE and Forums (as appropriate) a “heat map” of asset strengths and weaknesses for best practice sharing and collaborative improvement focus.
Lead annual reporting of resources and reserves and related management reporting, including minerals and petroleum collaboration.
Assess impact of any regulatory changes (ASX, JORC, US-SEC, LSE, JSX) and update Our Requirements and Standards accordingly. Incorporate changes into the assurance process.
Controls Effectiveness Collaborative Assessment (CECA) and Resource and Reserve Risk Reviews
Assist Internal Audit and Advisory (IAA) to resource Third Line of Defence assurance activities as requested
Assist with preparation and provide training and/or facilitation at the regional or asset level for Competent and Qualified Persons undertaking Resource and Reserve public reporting.
Provide support and coordination to regions and assets in resource and reserve evaluation and promote programs for assessment of accuracy for modifying factors e.g. reconciliation performance
Participate, provide guidance and represent BHP on external/ internal technical research projects and coordinate dissemination of output to the wider BHP Group.
Undertake specific project tasks in support of assets, or at Regional level e.g. Transformational as directed and approved.
Facilitate the communication and information sharing of good resource development and planning processes across BHP.
Actively promoting and complying with BHP Charter values and policies.
About You

Competencies

Extensive mining industry related experience / expertise, especially in the areas of operations and strategic planning, resource and reserves evaluation and reporting;Experience at a Regional, asset or project level in mine geology, exploration, mine planning and resource/ reserve evaluation internationally and across multiple commodities, preferably at both an operational and planning level and with management experience.Expertise in a particular discipline such as database management, tenement management, geostatistics, geotechnical engineering, hydrology, QAQC, closure, business evaluation/ mineral economics will be highly advantageous.Expertise in regulatory and public reporting and approvals processes;

Mine Geology/ Mine Planning in open pit and or underground operations
Drill program planning and management including sampling theory and QAQC

Range Analysis, Value of Information, Continuous Improvement Methodology, Problem Framing, Economic Analysis

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Geoscience/ Resource Engineering disciplines is essential and relevant post-graduate qualifications are considered an advantage. Prior experience as a Competent/ Qualified Person will be viewed favourably. Some exposure to financial analysis and Oil and Gas reporting would be beneficial.
