The New Ventures Business Delivery Team (BDT) strategy is to explore for and find high value hydrocarbons, at the lowest possible cost in a safe and efficient manner. The BDT will carry out wildcat exploration and early appraisal activities (drill a second well on a discovery) until development and producing concepts that need to be devised by the next BDT.
Exploration Geoscience focuses on cost effective discovery and early appraisal of high value oil resources. The function places emphasis on applied scientific methods and seeks challenge, support and sponsorship for their geoscience ideas.
The New Ventures BDT is seeking to hire a Geoscientist based in Cape Town to contribute to the evaluation of data sets for various opportunities across the African continent. These evaluations may take the form of ‘open’ block applications to farm-in opportunities with various companies with equity to offer including
Working on projects where opportunities from multiple various sources need to be evaluated
Assisting in evaluation and communication of critical geological uncertainties feeding into additional data acquisition plans and either recommendation to capture or to decline
Inputting to business planning and decision making to advise and assist Management in making investment decisions
Providing input to recommendations to management, peer reviews, QA teams and joint venture partners
The position may include travelling to attend data room evaluations or partner workshops from time to time in Africa.
The position requires a Geoscientist with experience in Upstream oil and gas opportunity evaluations and assessments and able to demonstrate the following:
BSc. level or equivalent in Geoscience
General knowledge of regional/geographical geologies, play concepts and basin architecture with exposure to the integration of petrophysics, seismic interpretation, depositional models and reservoir engineering information for volumetric assessments
Exposure to a range of structural regimes and depositional environments
Experience in Petrel and similar mapping software
Able to adapt style and influence senior subsurface professionals
Excellent verbal, written, listening skills
Ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise between competing projects including decision making with a limited data set
