Asia Pacific represents one of the most geologically and politically diverse landscapes in BP’s portfolio. With growing regional demand for resources rapidly outstripping existing production capacity, exploration will play a critical role over the coming decade. BP’s current footprint in the region is broad, including two existing profit centres (Tangguh, Indonesia and NW Shelf Venture, Australia), new developments in India and Australia, and licences in Australia, India and Indonesia.
The Asia Pacific New Ventures team supports BP’s strategic objective to grow our existing businesses and to look for opportunities to build a new material producing region that can add long term value. The team also hold accountability for exploration within India via BP’s joint venture with Reliance.
A position has become available for a creative and motivated geologist to progress a diverse opportunity set in the Asia Pacific region. The successful candidate will work on a range of activities from frontier basin evaluation, to prospect inventory maturation, and progression of BP and OBO ILX opportunities.
Draw on a deep understanding of petroleum geology fundamentals to create valuable opportunities.
Use geological and geophysical datasets of various vintages and quality to create clear and concise technical descriptions for decision-making.
Ensure Best Practices are applied with appropriate level and focus.
Develop strong relationships with regional, cross-functional and partner teams to ensure excellent technical input to all aspects of technical work; collaborate early and regularly. Seek and incorporate peer assistance and feedback.
Provide input to Area Development Plans, and exploration and appraisal plans as needed.
Document at appropriate level to ensure clear audit trail for decisions and prevent future work duplication

Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
Ability to work with a variety of geological and geophysical data including 2D and 3D seismic, well logs, and core data.
Excellence in technical quality and delivery; proven track record of seeking pragmatic solutions, while maintaining high technical standards
Wide experience of basin to prospect scale evaluation in a variety of geological settings
