Daventry NN11JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Geoscientist role is a wide-ranging and challenging position that is embedded in nearly every part of Geotek’s business from application development to provision of services. The Geoscientist will work within a small team and would suit a geoscience graduate, or early career geoscientist with one or two years experience who has an interest in laboratory techniques, downhole logging, or remote sensing. The Geoscientist will use their knowledge to support and eventually lead core logging service projects at the laboratory in the UK and the field (onshore and offshore). In addition, the candidate will learn how to test and quality control geoscience instrumentation ahead of shipment, install equipment at a customer’s laboratory and deliver training on how to use the equipment for a given application. The role will be based in the UK but will include overseas fieldwork (onshore and offshore) as well as installation/business trips.ABOUT GEOTEKEstablished in 1994, Geotek is a world leader in its specialised field of non-destructive instrumentation and analysis of geological core samples with most of its products and services being sold overseas. We have a full order book for products and core logging services to the world’s earth science institutions, geotechnical companies, and to oil and gas and mining sectors.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Geoscientist role will suite a geoscience graduate, or early career geoscientist with one or two years experience. Whilst working with the core logging service team, the Geoscientist will use their geoscience knowledge to support and eventually lead core logging service projects at the laboratory in the UK, onshore within mobile laboratories based around the world, as well as offshore on coring and drilling vessels.General responsibilities include:The candidate will be working within a small group and must be an excellent team player with a focus for deliverySet-up, calibration, and analysis of geological cores/materials using Geotek Multi-Sensor Core Logger (MSCL) or X-ray CT equipmentVisual core description to known standards of rock and unconsolidated sediment coresProcessing of datasets, production of geological logs, and report writingLiaising with the customer on technical data, questions and deliverablesProduction of end of project presentations and travel to customer sites and conferences to present the work performedSupport/lead projects in the UK lab and in the field, either onshore or offshore in conjunction with a senior geologists or core services managerTest and quality control of geoscience instrumentation within a manufacturing environmentInstall, set-up and deliver training on the use of Geotek equipment at customer sitesWork on application studies using Geotek equipment and deliver through presentation, posters or papers publishable works to industry or academic conferencesSupport Geoscience Team Leader in the organisation of installation and service projectsThe specific level of duties and responsibilities will be set in accordance with the individual’s experience and interestsThere will be worldwide travel (onshore and offshore) for the successful candidateQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSProficient with Microsoft Office applications in particular Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerpointAccuracy, numeracy and attention to detail expectedGood problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomouslyGood interpersonal, presentation, organisational skillsMust be able to speak and write English fluentlyWillingness to learn and deliver to tight deadlinesEffective communication skills, and ability to work as part of a small teamThe successful candidate is likely to have attained qualifications in a geoscience subject and could have 1 or 2 years experience in industry or academiaAn interest in downhole logging, remote sensing or laboratory techniques would be preferred for this rolePrevious experience of scientific coding either within a Matlab or Python environment could be an advantage but it is not essentialPrevious experience of working with Geotek equipment may be an advantage but is not essentialMust have a full and clean UK driving licenseSalary and benefits are negotiable and will be commensurate with skills and experience.No agencies, thank youJob Type: Full-timeLicence:Driving Licence (Preferred)
