The candidate is expected to deliver expert level geophysical support the Ireland Exploration asset team, maturing the work programmes on CNOOC Nexen licensed assets mainly in the Porcupine Basin and surrounds. Previous experience working Atlantic Margin and/or the North Sea Basins with a recognised operating company is preferred. This role requires a high level of technical competence in the following areas; 2D and 3D seismic interpretation and mapping (Petrel), well log analysis / well ties, depth conversion, prospect definition /evaluation, volumetric and risk assessment. A working knowledge of quantitative geophysics (rock physics / AVO) is preferred, as is experience of integrating potential fields data into the seismic interpretation and the regional geological picture.

Integration with other discipline leads within the Ireland team and collaboration other teams involved in the Atlantic Margin area in Nexen forms an important aspect of the role, as does interaction with key technical stakeholders in Ireland. Some experience with well planning and execution would be beneficial to support wider team objectives. Assisting more junior staff is expected as part of the role.

Undertake geophysical studies offshore Ireland at a variety of scales and integration of these datasets, to form the framework of understanding
Mapping, depth conversion, prospect and lead definition and analysis, prospect risk assessment and volumetrics on Nexen acreage and surrounds.
Seismic sequence stratigraphic support for reservoir concepts and analogues evolving from seismic data.
Evaluating external exploration opportunities to expand and high grade the license footprint in Ireland and undertake portfolio development (data room work) as required
Facilitate a high level of collaboration with other teams, notably East Coast Canada and UK Atlantic Margin teams
Written and verbal reporting and appropriate presentations
Mentoring and coaching of junior staff in all the above
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in geophysics and have a minimum of 10 years experience, focused on basin to prospect scale evaluations.

The candidate should be in possession of a strong relevant qualification, ideally to Masters level. This should be combined with experience in NW Europe/Atlantic Margin Basins. Additional key skills sought include:

Knowledge of seismic sequence stratigraphy, prospect definition, volumetrics, risking and economics.
Broad based knowledge of well log analysis and lithological definition. - Project management skills and good influencing skills. - Petrel software skills required
Other UNIX based geological interpretation packages (RokDoc etc)
Working knowledge of GIS packages an advantage. - Good presentation / communication skills.
Good Geophysical degree
Significant experience in an operating Exploration & Production company.
Ideally broad experience in geological & geophysical evaluation across different phases of activity i.e. new ventures, operations, P&L; inventory/evaluation, wildcat exploration, brown field exploration, appraisal and production.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience in coaching and mentoring diverse technical teams.
Whilst technically focused, has demonstrable business understanding and understands the entrepreneurial mind set.
Working with stakeholders - developing others.
Experienced Exploration Geophysicist with significant experience of project management and data integration and synthesis
Petrel well and seismic interpretation expertise
Prospect generation and evaluation competency
