Our Energy Business Line in the Infrastructure & Environment Business Unit specializes in providing innovative approaches to solving difficult problems in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production and using or storing carbon dioxide generated during energy production and use. We use advanced earth science tools, methods, and models to characterize geologic systems for the oil and gas industry and for long term storage of CO2, including enhanced hydrocarbon recovery. Our clients include large and small oil and gas companies, engineering companies, electric utilities, and federal and state governments.
We are currently seeking a Geophysicist with experience in comprehensive analysis and interpretation of subsurface data to join our team. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio .
As a Geophysicist, the selected individual will provide geosystems analysis leadership to our oil and gas exploration and production and carbon utilization and storage programs. Examples of responsibilities based on current or anticipated projects include:
Integration of regional and local-scale geologic and geophysical data, including seismic surveys, to support assessment of oil and gas production or injection and storage of fluids in subsurface
Screening of potential production and storage fields and estimate available capacity through assessment of seismic surveys and deep well logs
Perform reservoir characterization studies and testing activities for oil and gas exploration and production and CO2 storage application
Perform seismic interpretation on both regional 2D lines and 3D volumes
Development of static earth models using commercial software for use in dynamic reservoir simulations
Provide expertise and support in the selection and execution of monitoring, verification, and accounting techniques, including surface and subsurface instrumentation suites and data analysis techniques
Provide expertise for a variety of geologic and geomechanically aspects of deep fluid injection wells including identification and assessment of risks associated with fluid disposal and CO2 storage or utilization
Support preparation of proposals to provide geologic characterization services oil and gas exploration and production services and for carbon dioxide storage opportunities
Successfully manage task assignments within time and budget constraints
Interact with clients to convey results or present findings through briefings
THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIREMENTS TO BE MET FOR THIS POSITION:
Graduate degree (preferred) with a minimum of 2yrs or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8yrs in geophysics, physics, geology, geologic science, earth science or closely related discipline
Proficiency in geologic assessments for the oil and gas industry or CO2 storage and utilization programs
Proficiency with data interpretation and assessments of seismic surveys, deep well logs (open hole and cased hole), and subsurface geology for exploration/production/CO2 storage projects
Proficiency with complex logging suites, including open-hole triple combo, cased-hole PNC/CBL, image logs, geomechanical logs, temperature log
Working knowledge of core analysis
Working knowledge of basic reservoir testing methods and analysis
Working knowledge of complex structural geology, carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
Hands-on experience with geologic analysis and integration software suites, such as PETREL or PETRA
Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums
Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information essential
Mentoring of junior staff in technical details and also in overall data gathering, assessment, and analysis.
THE FOLLOWING ARE PREFERRED TO BE MET FOR THIS POSITION
Project management experience within government contracts.
Experience in the Appalachian Basin and/or Michigan Basin and/or the Illinois Basin
Experience in unconventional plays, such as the Marcellus and Utica Shale
Experience with carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
Experience of complex structural geology, carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
Experience with downhole seismic and/or micro seismic monitoring
